Amherst College co-captain forward Andrew Schiel ’05 concluded a stellar men’s basketball career when he was named First-Team NCAA Division III All-America by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). Schiel led the Jeffs to a 26-2 record and their third New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Championship in the last five years, setting a school record with 19 straight victories and reaching their fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament Round of 16. He finished among the conference and/or national leaders in a variety of statistical categories, including scoring (17.1 ppg), field goal percentage (57.3%), free throw percentage (74.5%), three-point field goal percentage (36.5%) and blocked shots (1.93/gm), earning NABC Northeast Region Player of the Year, NESCAC Player of the Year and First-Team Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) New England All-Star honors among countless other awards. An Honorable Mention All-America as a junior as well, Schiel was one of ten finalists for the Jostens Trophy, awarded annually to the NCAA Division III national player of the year, and graduates as Amherst’s seventh all-time leading scorer with 1,408 career points.
