Joe Northrup, Bates College

 

Joe Northrup, a resident of St. Johnsbury, V.T. wrapped up his outdoor track and field season as an All-American. Northrup earned All-America honors in the decathlon, placing seventh with 6,721 total points at the NCAA Division III National Track and Field Championships held at Wartburg College.

Northrup ends his Bates outdoor career as a two-time All-American, a two-time member of the NESCAC All-Conference Team in the shot put (2004-05), 4x100 meter relay and distance medley relay (2003-04), a two-time State of Maine champion, and a Bates record holder with most points scored in the decathlon. The top three finishers in the NESCAC Championships earn All-Conference status.

This season, Bates sent its largest contingent in school history to the NCAA Division III indoor championships championships.  Northrup was a part of the 4 x 400 relay team that competed as the first men’s relay team from Bates to compete in the NCAAs. The Bobcats qualified at the BU Valentines Day Classic.  The 4 relay team finished in seventh place earning All-America status.
