Steve Baldassarri, Williams College
|
Two-time Academic All-NESCAC selection, Steve Baldassarri lettered for four years in varsity ice hockey for the Ephs as a forward. He played in 93 games and tallied 35 goals and assisted on 41 others for 76 career points.
Baldassarri's impact at Williams spread well beyond the confines of Lansing Chapman Rink. The economics major from Brewster, NY served as a Junior Advisor living in a first year residence and he also founded Special Population Skate.
Special Population Skate was held Sunday mornings in Lansing Chapman Rink with members of the Williams men's ice hockey team and Eph athletes from other sports teaching kids and young adults with special needs how to skate.
Baldassarri organized the entire Special Population Skate from the ground up; scheduling ice time, convincing a local merchant to donate skates, arranging for the transportation of the special population and providing an opportunity for meaningful interactions between Eph athletes and members of the local community.
At graduation Baldassarri received the Williard E. Hoyt, Jr. Memorial Award presented to the senior athlete "whose spirit and superior efforts on behalf of Williams athletics have been combined with deep academic interests." This fall Baldassarri will enter the Boston University School of Medicine.
