Griffin Finan, Bates College
|
From his first year at Bates College to his
last, Griffin Finan was as steady a starting
pitcher as they came. By the end of his four-year career, Finan had
tied the Bates career pitching record for starts (27), and he also
owned the single-season record for lowest percentage of bases on
balls per nine innings (8 walks in 44 innings in 2005).
The epitome of the crafty righthander, Finan's reserved style of
leadership made him a natural to become a team co-captain in 2007,
and he led the Bobcats in 2007 with five complete games, a 4-3
record and a 4.28 earned run average.
Finan graduated from Bates with a 3.56 grade point average. A
native of Bethesda, Md., he majored in political science and twice
earned Academic All-NESCAC honors, as well as the David Nash
Memorial Baseball Award. His thesis was entitled "The Impact of
Redistricting Commissions: An Analysis of State Senate Elections
from 1998-2004."
