Gabrielle Woodson, Williams College
Gabrielle Woodson brought a fierce tenacity to the
soccer field that enabled the Ephs to raise the level of their
program each of her four seasons in the Purple Valley.
A two-time All-America selection, Woodson graduated in June with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and Political Science.
In 2009, Woodson led the Ephs to a 19-1-1 record. Their only loss came to Wheaton (Ill.), in the national semifinals. The team set a program record for most wins in a season and became the first NESCAC school to win back-to-back conference titles in women’s soccer.
Woodson led her squad with 38 points in 2008. Her 15 goals broke her own single-season record of 14 set in 2007. She exhibited a knack for scoring clutch goals, none bigger than a game-tying tally in the NESCAC Championship against Amherst with 4:01 remaining in regulation. In October, Woodson helped the Ephs gain a 1-1 tie at Amherst when she scored with 1:03 left in the second half.
In 2007, Woodson was named the NESCAC Player of the Year after leading Williams to a 17-1 record by scoring 14 goals and adding 7 assists for a total of 35 points.
Woodson ended her career with 85 points (34 goals, 17 assists) in 65 games, fourth best all-time at Williams. Her goal output (34) is also fourth best, and she finished third all-time in assists (17). During her final season she had six game-winning goals for the second straight year, a team-leading figure.
In her Woodson’s four seasons, the Ephs were a combined 53-10-5 overall, a .816 winning percentage.
Off the field, Woodson tutored and taught Ms. Lisa Shannon's fourth grade class at Williamstown Elementary throughout all four years at Williams. For the past two years she has been developing a business plan and acquiring capital to start a website that will be launched in the near future, www.thebridaldiaries.com. The purpose of the website is for women of all ages to connect with each other about wedding advice and ideas.
