Evan Redwood, Amherst College
A three-time USILA honorable mention All-America selection,
Evan Redwood graduated as one of the most
decorated men's lacrosse players in program history. Immediately
contributing as a first year in 2009, the Lutherville, Md. native
netted 10 goals and 11 assists, while appearing in 14 games.
Continuing to excel as a sophomore, he doubled his goal total (20),
while leading the team in helpers (16).
Enjoying a career year as a junior with 52 points on 27 goals and
25 assists, he helped lead the Jeffs to a program-record 15 wins,
the team's first-ever NCAA Tournament berth and a trip to the
National Quarterfinals. Wrapping up his playing career with another
strong showing in 2012, he scored at least 20 goals (25) for the
third-consecutive season, while handing out at least 20 assists
(23) for the second-straight year.
Earning an invitation to the prestigious USILA/LaxWorld North-South
Senior Game, the two-year captain garnered praise on the All-NESCAC
team on three occasions, while finishing his illustrious career
with 157 points in 62 games (82 G, 75 A).
Also an active member of the College community, the political
science major spent two years as a Resident Councilor. In addition
to his work with Amherst Residential Life, he spent a summer in
Peru working for a non-profit organization that strives to educate
and empower underprivileged children and disadvantaged mothers in
the city of Trujillo.
In 2010, he also helped raise more than $10,000 as part of the Run
for Ruth, a benefit for the Sussman Family Fund for breast cancer
research, before participating in the Climb for Cole in the fall of
2011 to raise another $10,000 for United Cerebral Palsy.
"We do these events not only to raise money and awareness, but to
convey an underlying theme of empathy on our team," said Redwood.
"It's important that we realize that there are causes bigger than
ourselves that involve bettering the lives of others."
