Ben Scheetz, Amherst College
Excelling on the track and in the classroom, Ben
Scheetz graduated as one of Amherst's most decorated men's
track & field student-athletes.
The school's recordholder in 10 indoor and outdoor events, he is
only one of two Lord Jeffs to win a national championship,
capturing the 800-meter indoor title in 2011 en route to the first
of two USTFCCCA Indoor Track Athlete of the Year accolades.
Serving as a captain on Amherst's cross country team this past
fall, Scheetz recorded the fastest time in Division III history in
the 800-meter run (1:47.43) during the indoor season. For his
efforts, he was named to the prestigious Bowerman Watch List, an
honor typically reserved for Division I athletes.
Named the 2011 Outdoor Regional Athlete of the Year after placing
second in the outdoor 800m, he turned in another All-America
performance at the 2012 NCAA championship meet, placing seventh in
the event in his final collegiate race.
Recently earning a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-District First
Team, Scheetz is the first Amherst men's track & field
student-athlete to earn CoSIDA Academic All-District honors since
John Stanton-Geddes '04 was named to the First Team in 2004.
Graduating with a B-plus average as a physics major, he was also
recognized in 2011 for his academic achievements, as he was named
the Indoor Scholar-Athlete of the Year by the USTFCCCA.
