Sean McCarthy, Trinity College
Sean McCarthy, an economics major at Trinity,
was the school's top male scholar-athlete in both his junior and
senior years, being recognized with the prized Bob Harron Award and
ECAC Award. A President's Scholar, 2009-10 Dean's Scholar and
recipient of the Phi Gamma Delta Prize for Mathematics for his
combined excellence in mathematics I, II, and III, McCarthy
maintained a 4.112 grade-point average at Trinity.
As a captain of the men's hockey team, McCarthy was a major
contributor to Trinity's success on the ice, having compiled 19
goals and 17 assists in 85 career games as a forward, including six
game-winning goals for the Bantams.
"Sean is a special player not only due to his daily approach and
consistency of effort but due to his versatility," says Head Men's
Ice Hockey Coach Matt Greason. "He plays so many different roles
for us which is a value that can't be measured. Sean has been an
integral part of all our special teams, excels defensively as a
forward on the penalty kill, and has won games for us with his goal
scoring. Sean leads most often with his actions, but when he
chooses to speak, he always has the attention and the respect of
his teammates and coaches."
