Vlad Murad, Men's Tennis, Colby College
Colby College's Vlad Murad (Bacau, Romania) achieved a rare double-double, being named an All-American in men's tennis and CoSIDA Academic All-American.
Murad made the NCAA Division III Tournament and finished 20th in the country in singles play this past season. He earned the National Most Improved Senior Award before the NCAA Tourney after earlier being named the Northeast Region's Most Improved Senior.
Murad was just as good in the classroom. He earned the prestigious CoSIDA Academic All-America honor, making the second team for the at-large category. Murad earlier earned District 1 (New England) honors and was selected as the NCAA's Elite 90 Award winner for highest grade-point average of any player at the NCAA Tournament.
Murad registered the highest grade-point average of any Colby senior student-athlete and was a Phi Beta Kappa inductee for the Class of 2017.
Before all the national awards, Murad was named to the NESCAC First Team for his singles play and was on the NESCAC Spring All-Academic Team for the third time. He finished his career with a record of 94-55, despite missing time due to injury. Murad was 17-5 singles and 17-6 in doubles during his final year.
Murad and two-time All-American Carl Reid were four-year doubles partners. The pair twice earned All-NESCAC Second Team honors.
A math and computer science double major, Murad will be pursuing a PhD in artificial intelligence and machine learning at the University of Washington.
