Orlowitz, Tufts (Senior, CF - Wakefield, Mass.) Orlowitz was hot at the dish for the Jumbos during their run to the 2011 NESCAC Baseball Championship, batting an impressive .800 (8-for-10) over two victories. In the tournament opener for Tufts on Friday against Middlebury, Orlowitz was 5-for-5 with a home run, a double, four runs scored, and three driven in as part of a 14-2 win. He followed with a 3-for-5 showing with a triple, three runs scored and an RBI. |

Bernstein, Tufts (Senior, RHP - Foxborough, Mass.) Bernstein entered a tied game four of the NESCAC Baseball Championship against Bowdoin in the eighth inning with runners on second and third and proceeded to get the Jumbos out of the jam. He went on to finish the game, a 4-2, 12-inning victory for Tufts, allowing three hits and one walk while striking out five over 4.2 IP. The outing stretched his no earned runs allowed streak this season to 28 innings. |

Mike
Samela, Amherst (Junior, C - Westport, Conn.) Samela hit .538 (7-for-13) during a 2-1 week for the Lord Jeffs, who finished with 24 regular season victories for the first time since 1997. He had an on-base percentage of .538, scored three runs, drove in six, and was 2-for-2 on stolen base attempts. In an 11-4 win over Eastern Conn. St. on Saturday, Samela went 2-for-5 with two RBIs, a run scored, and a stolen base. He followed on Sunday with a 4-for-6 performance in a 13-5 win at Southern Maine, scoring two runs and driving in four. |

Joseph, Middlebury (Sophomore, RHP - Bala Cynwyd, Pa.) Joseph threw his fourth complete game of the season, a 3-2 victory over Tufts on Sunday. In the scheduled 7-inning affair, Joseph allowed seven hits and just one walk while striking out eight. He held opposing batters to a .250 average at the plate. |

Rueger, Trinity (Sophomore, OF - Teaneck, N.J.) Rueger batted .520 (13-for-25) with a .560 on-base percentage and a .680 slugging mark during a 5-0 week for the Bantams. He hit four doubles, scored eight runs, and drove in eight. During Tuesday’s 28-2 victory at Western Conn. St., Rueger went 5-for-8 with four runs and five RBIs. In the two-game series against Middlebury, Rueger was 7-for-13 at the plate. In Sunday’s 4-3 win at Brandeis, Rueger doubled to start the third inning, as Trinity scored three runs to recover from an early 3-1 hole. |

Miller, Tufts (Senior, LHP - Whitman, Mass.) Miller did not allow a run in 10 innings of work over two appearances last week. On Saturday against Bowdoin, Miller tossed eight shutout innings, allowing four hits and no earned runs in a 5-0 win that gave the Jumbos the number-one seed for the East Division in the upcoming NESCAC tournament. For the week, he struck out five and walked three. |

Roeder, Middlebury (Junior, Catcher - Keene, N.H.) Roeder extended his hitting streak to 12 games during a 4-0 week for the Panthers, hitting an impressive .714 (10-for-14) at the plate as he picked up multiple hits in all four games. He had an on-base percentage of .722, as he walked twice, hit a double and a home run, scored seven runs, and drove in seven. During the series sweep of Hamilton, Roeder went 7-for-10, scoring and driving in five runs. He scored the only run of Saturday’s 1-0 win after leading off the second inning with a single. |

Van Zant, Bowdoin (Sophomore, RHP - Westport, Conn.) Van Zant got the win in Saturday’s series-clinching victory over Colby, as he tossed six innings of shutout ball in a scheduled seven-inning affair. During the 3-0 Polar Bear win over their Maine rivals, Van Zant struck out 10 while surrendering just two hits and one walk. The effort dropped his season ERA to 2.75. |

He batted .500 (4-for-8) with five walks, five runs scored, and four batted in while not striking out. In game one, Orlowitz had a hit, two walks, and was hit by a pitch as he scored three runs. During game three, Orlowitz hit a bases-loaded triple, walked twice, and was hit by a pitch. He also went 2-for-3 in stolen base attempts and was perfect in the field over the series. |

Yarusi, Wesleyan (Junior, RHP/SS - Belmar, N.J.) Yarusi tossed a three-hit shutout during Saturday’s 6-0 victory over Middlebury, going the distance over the seven-inning game with two strikeouts and one walk. He worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the fourth inning and retired the final seven batters he faced for his first shutout of the year. |

Ruane sparked the Polar Bear offense from the leadoff spot during a 4-1 week, batting .526 (10-for-19) with an .524 on-base percentage and a .684 slugging mark. He scored eight runs, drove in three, hit three doubles, walked once and only struck out once. Ruane’s best performance of the week came in the series-clinching game at Bates on Saturday, as he went 4-for-4 at the dish with three runs scored and three RBIs in the 14-9 victory. |

Marino, Williams (Junior, LHP - Westfield, N.J.) Marino tossed a complete-game two-hitter during Saturday’s 2-1 win over Wesleyan. Over 7.0 innings pitched in the victory, he walked three batters and struck out five. For the week, Marino made two appearances, going 8.0 innings and holding opposing batters to a .080 average. |

Sonnenfeld, Wesleyan (Senior, LF - Matawan, N.J.) Sonnenfeld had three consecutive multiple-hit outings during the Cardinals’ three-game series with NESCAC West Division foe Hamilton over the weekend. Sonnenfeld batted .667 (8-for-12), had an on-base percentage of .733, slugged 1.000, and was perfect in the field. He had an extra base hit in each game, posting two doubles and a triple, drove in eight runs, and scored four. Sonnenfeld walked three times and failed to strike out in 16 plate appearances. |

Shepard, Amherst (Freshman, LHP - Amherst, Mass.) Shepard was nearly untouchable during the Lord Jeffs’ 8-1 win over Bowdoin on Sunday, as he earned the win in 5.0 innings of work with one hit, one walk, and three strikeouts. The Polar Bears went a combined .059 against Shepard, who retired the side in order in the fourth as he moved to 2-1 on the season. |

Susk, Williams (Junior, SS - Woodside, Calif.) Susk batted .586 (17-for-29) and had an on-base percentage of .639 during an 8-1 showing for the Ephs in their first week of the season in Arizona. He scored six runs, drove in 10 more, had three doubles, five walks, and did not record a single strikeout in 36 plate appearances. During Saturday’s 5-2 win over Gustavus Adolphus, Susk went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. He was also 3-for-4 at the plate in Monday’s 12-9 win over Johns Hopkins. |

Marino, Williams (Junior, LHP - Westfield, N.J.) Marino got the win in Monday’s 12-9 victory over Johns Hopkins and did not record a decision in the first game of a double-header with Gustavus Adolphus on Saturday, a 5-2, 9-inning win for the Ephs. Against the Gusties, Marino struck out 12 and walked just one batter while allowing five hits and one unearned run over 7.0 IP. For the week, Marino had a 3.46 ERA, a 1.23 WHIP, and 18 strikeouts in 13.0 IP. |

Rose, Tufts (Senior, RF - Paradise Valley, Ariz.) Rose batted .625 (5-for-8) with a .667 on-base percentage and a 1.000 slugging mark as the 2010 NESCAC Baseball Champion Jubmos opened the year 1-1 this past weekend. During Friday’s 12-3 victory at Lynchburg, Rose had five RBIs, including a three-run home run as part of a four-run seventh inning. |

Janiga, Trinity (Senior, RHP - Ellington, Conn.) In two appearances for the Bantams last week, Janiga allowed no runs and held opposing batters to a .100 average. After pitching two scoreless innings of relief in an appearance against MIT, he started and pitched five innings of no-hit ball in a 4-1 win over Westfield St. this past weekend, striking out eight. |
