The strong Bowdoin squad is the runner-up in the conference championship for the third straight year. The Polar Bears are 25-18 after today.
Burrows started the game hot and kept the ball rolling, allowing just four hits in the game, as Trinity captured their sixth shutout this season with a mix of timely strikeouts and key defensive plays, including a highlight catch by senior David Casanova (Bristol, Conn.) in center field, and two momentum shifting double plays in the infield.
Junior Alex Almeida (Bridgeport, Conn.) got the bats going when he broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third with an RBI double. The Bantams added another run in the fourth after a deep double by junior Joe Papa (Stoneham, Mass.) and RBI single by freshman Adam Moossmann (East Northport, N.Y.). Trinity posted three more runs in the sixth, highlighted by a two-RBI single by Moossmann, and a well struck RBI double by freshman Bryan Wolfe (La Habra, Calif.). the Bantams added one last insurance run in the seventh, on a sacrifice fly from senior co-captain Kevin Mortimer (Spencer, Mass.). Freshman Buddy Shea (Branford, Conn.) highlighted the Bowdoin offense, going 1-2 with a walk, while sophomore John Lefeber (Branford, Conn.) pitched seven innings, allowing four earned runs for the Polar Bears.
With the pitching staff's sixth shutout, the Trinity arms enter the Regional Round tied for second in program history. The only team to record more in a season was the 2008 National Championship team, which racked up nine shutouts.
