Joe Papa,
Trinity (Junior, OF - Stoneham, Mass.) Papa had a stellar weekend at the plate during the 2012 NESCAC Baseball Championship, leading the Bantams to their fourth conference crown with a .636 average (7-for-14) and a .692 on-base mark. Papa had a hit in all three Trinity victories, with two of his seven going for extra bases. He also scored four runs, drove in three, walked twice, and did not strike out. In Friday’s 6-5 win over Williams, Papa was 3-for-3. He went 2-for-4 with three RBIs in Saturday’s 14-3 victory against Bowdoin. |

Burrows, Trinity (Sophomore, RHP - Floral Park, N.Y.) Burrows was on the hill for the Bantams in the decisive game of the NESCAC Baseball Championship on Sunday, allowing just four hits (.138) and one walk while striking out five. Only one runner advanced past second base in the nine-inning affair. |

Casanova, Trinity (Senior, OF - Bristol, Conn.) Casanova reached base safely in eight of his nine trips to the plate during a doubleheader sweep of rival Wesleyan last week. Casanova finished the twin-bill with a .857 batting average (6-for-7) and .889 on-base mark (two walks), hitting a double and scoring three runs. He also drove in a run and stole a base. |

Gilchrist, Tufts (Senior, LHP - Medford, Mass.) In the final start of his career, Gilchrist tossed a seven-inning shutout against Middlebury during the second game of Sunday’s doubleheader, allowing six hits (.231) and no walks while striking out five. |

Thomas
Rafferty, Middlebury (Junior, 3B - Chicago, Ill.) Rafferty batted .588 (10-for-17) during a 2-2 week for the Panthers with a .941 slugging mark. He hit three doubles along with his first career home run, coming during game one of the doubleheader with Trinity on Saturday. Rafferty opened the week with a 5-for-6 effort in a 10-5 win at St. Michael’s on Tuesday before going 3-for-4 with four runs scored in a 15-2 decision at Southern Vt. on Wednesday. He finished the week with seven runs scored and seven driven in. |

Marino, Williams (Senior, LHP - Westfield, N.J.) Marino fired the Ephs’ first no-hitter in at least 23 years on Saturday, going seven innings with four walks and 11 strikeouts in an 8-0 victory over Hamilton, as he faced only 24 batters. He also picked up the decision with a scoreless inning of relief during a 6-5 victory over RPI on Wednesday to finish 2-0 on the week. |

Collins, Tufts (Senior, 1B/DH - Hopkinton, Mass.) Collins recorded multiple hits in each of the Jumbos’ seven victories last week, as he batted .630 (17-for-27) with a .613 on-base percentage and a .963 slugging mark. He scored 12 runs, drove in 12, had four doubles, a triple, and a home run. He also stole a base (1-for-1). Collins went 4-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs in a doubleheader sweep of UMass Dartmouth on Monday, 4-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs at Daniel Webster on Friday, and 5-for-9 with five runs in a doubleheader sweep at Williams on Saturday. |

Van Zant, Bowdoin (Junior, RHP - Westport, Conn.) Van Zant was dominant in a 6-1 victory at rival Colby on Friday afternoon, as he allowed one earned run on two hits (.068) and one walk while striking out 11 over the 9-inning affair. The performance moved Van Zant to 4-1 on the year with an ERA of 2.08. |

Mike
Samela, Amherst (Senior, OF/C - Westport, Conn.) In a 3-0 week for the Lord Jeffs, Samela batted .600 (6-for-10) with a .636 on-base percentage. He scored seven runs, drove in six, and did not commit an error in the field on 12 chances. After going 3-for-3 with four runs scored and two RBIs in a 15-3 win over Castleton on Thursday, Samela helped Amherst to a doubleheader sweep of Bates on Sunday by going 3-for-7 with two runs scored and four RBIs. During a 5-1 victory in the first game, Samela prevented the tying run from scoring in the seventh inning by gunning down a runner at home plate. |

Marino, Williams (Senior, LHP - Westfield, N.J.) Marino had a strong week over two appearances for the Ephs, allowing one earned run, four hits (.143), and three walks while striking out 14 batters in 8.2 innings of work. During Saturday’s series opener with Wesleyan, Marino struck out nine over the first four innings and had a career-high 11 over the course of the 7-inning affair as Williams earned a 7-1 victory. |

Rogers, Trinity (Junior, IF - Watertown, Mass.) Rogers helped the Bantams go undefeated last week (4-0), batting .588 (10-for-17) with a 1.118 slugging mark and a .611 on-base percentage. Half of his hits went for extra bases, as he connected for two doubles, two triples, and a home run. He scored eight runs and drove in eight. During an 8-7 win at Tufts in game three of the series, Rogers hit a two-run homer in the seventh to tie the game at seven. He had multiple hits in three of Trinity’s four games last week. |

Van Zant, Bowdoin (Junior, RHP - Westport, Conn.) Van Zant tossed a four-hit shutout - all singles - at Bates on Saturday, a 3-0 win for the Polar Bears. Van Zant did not walk a single batter and struck out nine during the seven-inning victory. The performance lowered his ERA this season to 0.85 and moved him to 3-0 on the year. Van Zant has struck out at least nine batters in each of his last four starts. |

Weikert, Tufts (Junior, 1B/OF - Avondale Estates, Ga.) Weikert recorded a hit in all four of the Jumbos’ outings last week, all of which were wins. He batted .571 (8-for-14) with seven runs scored and six driven in. Weikert reached base at a .647 clip, as he walked once and did not strike out in 14 plate appearances. On Thursday at Mass. Maritime, Weikert was 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBIs in a 17-0 win. During the Jumbos’ three-game series at Bates, Weikert went 5-for-10, including a 2-for-4 showing in Friday’s 8-2 victory. |

Barsotti, Wesleyan (Senior, RHP - Philadelphia, Pa.) Barsotti got saddled with the tough-luck loss in a 1-0 setback at Bowdoin on Saturday, his only appearance last week for Wesleyan. The senior hurler went the distance for the Cardinals against the Polar Bears, allowing three hits (.115 opponent average) and a walk while striking out 13. The only run of the game scored on a throwing error on a sacrifice bunt. |

Donnie
Cimino, Wesleyan (Freshman, OF - Westwood, N.J.) Cimino batted .517 (15-for-29) and reached base at a .600 rate during the Cardinals’ 4-4 week that closed out their trip to Arizona. Cimino hit safely in seven of Wesleyan’s eight outings and was perfect in the outfield on 16 chances. He scored 11 runs and drove in 11, walked five times, hit two doubles and a triple, and was 6-for-6 in stolen base attempts. Over the Cardinals’ last three games, all wins, Cimino went 8-for-14 (.571) with seven runs and 11 RBIs. |

Redamonti, Trinity (Freshman, LHP - Trumbull, Conn.) Redamonti gave up just two hits and one walk over two appearances last week, both of which were Bantam victories. In 6.2 innings of work, Redamonti held opponents to a .091 average and did not surrender a run while striking out 15. He had 10 strikeouts in 4.2 innings of a 9-0 win over Hamilton, then struck out five in two innings of perfect relief in a 10-1 victory against Grinnell. |

Mortimer, Trinity (Senior, 1B - Spencer, Mass.) Mortimer hit .471 with a .526 on-base percentage as the Bantams opened the season 3-3 last week. He hit a home run, walked twice, drove in two runs and scored two runs, all while striking out only once in 17 at-bats. Mortimer went 3-for-4 with a home run in a victory over Worcester St. on Sunday. Earlier in the week, Mortimer had a pair of hits in each outing during a doubleheader with Endicott, as the Bantams split the series. |

Van Zant, Bowdoin (Junior, RHP - Westport, Conn.) Van Zant is off to a solid start for the Polar Bears this season. Earning two wins in both of his appearances to date down in Florida, Van Zant has allowed no earned runs and given up four hits (.095 opponent average) while striking out 16. He had a complete-game, one-hit shutout of Endicott before tossing six innings of three-hit ball, striking out nine, against Suffolk. |
