2001 Football Players of the Week

November 11, 2001
Offensive Player of the Week:
Keven Kelley, Tufts
(Junior, RB - Natick, Mass.)
Kelley set the Tufts single-season rushing record with 1,079 yards after gaining 136 yards on 35 carries in the win over Middlebury. He scored on a 16-yard touchdown run to give the Jumbos a 10-0 third quarter lead. He rushed for 84 yards in the second half to eclipse the previous school record of 1,070 yards set by Paul Dresens in 1988.

Defensive Player of the Week:
James Kingsley, Williams
(Senior, LB - Madison, Conn.)
Kingsley made 11 tackles, including seven solo hits, three tackles for loss, and defended one pass as Williams came back from a 10-point halftime deficit to complete its undefeated season and capture the NESCAC and Little III titles.

Rookie of the Week:
Kevin Madden, Bates
(Freshman, LB - Concord, N.H.)
Madden recorded a team season-high 13 tackles, including three solo hits and two tackles for a loss.

Rob Patchett, Bowdoin
(Freshman, RB - Pembroke, Mass.)
Patchett rushed 12 times for 80 yards and scored on an eight-yard touchdown run.

November 4, 2001
Offensive Player of the Week:
Kane Jankoski, Bates
(Junior, QB - Spencer, Mass.)
Jankoski tied career-highs with 19 completions in 31 attempts for a career-high 250 yards and four touchdowns as Bates snapped an eight-game losing streak. He threw three touchdowns in a 21-point second quarter and improved his quarterback rating by 15 points.

Defensive Player of the Week:
Mark Tilki, Tufts
(Sophomore, CB - Derby, Conn.)
Tilki intercepted passes on three consecutive Colby possessions, made six tackles, and recovered a blocked punt to set up the only touchdown in a 10-3 Tufts win. The Jumbos set a school record with seven interceptions and limited Colby to 160 yards passing.

Dan Lalli, Amherst
(Senior, LB - Watertown, Mass.)
Lalli posted a career-high 18 tackles and forced a fumble in a 28-10 Amherst win over Trinity.

Rookie of the Week:
Marsh Moseley, Amherst
(Freshman, QB - New Orleans, La.)
Moseley finished 13-for-20 for 138 yards and one touchdown. He also ran for 43 yards as the Jeffs remained undefeated.

October 28, 2001
Offensive Player of the Week:
Brennan Carney, Wesleyan
(Sophomore, QB - South Burlington, Vt.)
Carney completed 25 of 36 passes for a career-high 341 yards with three touchdowns. He led Wesleyan to touchdowns on six of 11 possessions before giving way to the backup quarterback for the final three possessions in a 41-31 win over Bowdoin.

Danny Noyes, Colby
(Senior, WR/RB/K - Silver Lake, N.H.)
Noyes accumulated 274 yards of total offense in a Colby win over Bates. He caught nine passes for 209 yards and two touchdowns, and rushed twice for 65 yards. He was responsible for 2/3 of the Colby offense, and kicked off seven times, averaging 52.6 yards per kickoff.

Defensive Player of the Week:
Jay Hutchins, Amherst
(Senior, DB - Columbus, Ohio)
Hutchins recorded 10 unassisted tackles to lead Amherst past Tufts. With the Jumbos driving on the Jeffs' one-yard line and leading 10-7, Hutchins recovered a fumble and returned it 24 yards to set up the game-winning drive.

Rookie of the Week:
Chris McNamara, Trinity
(Freshman, DE - Dallas, Texas)
McNamara finished with four tackles, batted down a pass, and added a sack and forced fumble for Trinity in its loss to Middlebury.

October 21, 2001
Offensive Player of the Week:
Greg Ward, Trinity
(Junior, QB - Avon, Conn.)
Ward completed 29 of 47 passes for 352 yards and two touchdowns in a 50-34 Trinity win over Bowdoin. He also rushed for one touchdown. Ward tied the school single-game record for completions while completing passes to eight different receivers.

Denny Smith, Middlebury
(Junior, WR - Weybridge, Vt.)
Smith caught 13 passes for 204 yards and two touchdowns. He caught scoring passes of 43 and 49 yards while recording the second-highest single-game receiving yardage in school history. He set the record with 228 yards receiving against Colby earlier this season.

Defensive Player of the Week:
Ben Sands, Williams
(Senior, S - Cleveland Heights, Ohio)
Sands made 15 tackles, including 12 solo hits, and broke up two passes as Williams remained undefeated with a 21-17 victory over previously unbeaten Tufts.

Rookie of the Week:
Marsh Moseley, Amherst
(Freshman, QB - New Orleans, La.)
Moseley came off the bench to throw for 129 yards and two touchdowns, leading Amherst on all four scoring drives in a 23-0 win over Wesleyan. He finished 8-for-16 without an interception and rushed for 18 yards.

Bradley Soules, Trinity
(Freshman, WR - Simsbury, Conn.)
Soules caught nine passes for 113 yards and one touchdown. He also returned three kicks for 76 yards.

October 14, 2001
Offensive Players of the Week:
Sean Atkins, Bates
(Junior, RB - Bronx, N.Y.)
Atkins rushed for 270 yards and two touchdowns (65 and 34 yards) on 36 carries. The 270 yards was the second biggest rushing day in school history and the second biggest rushing day in NCAA Division III this season.

Defensive Player of the Week:
Caleb Hudak, Tufts
(Sophomore, DL - White River Junction, Vt.)
Hudak finished with 10 tackles, including eight solo hits, recovered a fumble, and knocked down three passes at the line of scrimmage in a win over Trinity. His fumble recovery on the Bantams' 18 set up the game-winning field goal in the second quarter. All three passes he batted down came in the fourth quarter.

Scott Farley, Williams
(Junior, S- Williamstown, Mass.)
Farley led the Ephs with seven tackles, including five solo hits in a win at Middlebury. He recovered a fumble and also returned a punt 63 yards for a touchdown.

Rookie of the Week:
Jarrett Young, Bowdoin
(Freshman, DE - St. Louis, Mo.)
Young made five tackles and recorded two sacks to lead Bowdoin to its victory over Hamilton.

October 7, 2001
Offensive Player of the Week:
Brian Fabrizio, Trinity
(Junior, RB - Norwell, Mass.)
Fabrizio rushed 27 times for 159 yards and one touchdown as Trinity defeated Hamilton 21-10.

Defensive Player of the Week:
Jay Hutchins, Amherst
(Senior, DB - Columbus, Ohio)
Hutchins, a senior defensive back, finished with a game-high 12 tackles with four unassisted hits in a 7-3 Amherst win over Middlebury. He forced a turnover in the first half and helped the Jeffs' defense limit the Panthers to 202 yards of total offense.

Rookie of the Week:
Adam Ranks, Bates
(Freshman, TE - Stratham, N.H.)
In his first career start, Banks caught six passes for 83 yards. Four of his receptions were for first downs and the other two were for nine yards apiece.

September 30, 2001
Offensive Player of the Week:
Joe Reardon, Williams
(Sophomore, QB - Alexandria, Va.)
Reardon completed 25 of 35 passes for 317 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Ephs to a 31-10 win at Trinity.

Denny Smith, Middlebury
(Junior, WR - Weybridge, Vt.)
Smith broke the school record for single-game receiving yards with 228 yards on 11 catches, including a 54-yard touchdown reception.

Defensive Player of the Week:
Steve Woodruff, Wesleyan
(Junior, FS - Bridgewater, Mass.)
Woodruff made nine tackles and intercepted two passes to lead Wesleyan to its first shutout in 13 years (100 games). He returned his interceptions for a total of 43 yards. His second pick came midway through the fourth quarter after Hamilton reached the Wesleyan six-yard line, picking off a pass at the goal line and returning it 30 yards.

Pat McGee, Amherst
(Senior, DT - Marshfield, Mass.)
McGee finished with 10 tackles, including four solo hits, four for loss, and two sacks. Amherst held Bowdoin to 127 yards of total offense in posting its second consecutive shutout.

Rookie of the Week:
Pete Simon, Hamilton
(Freshman, DB/PK - Miami, Fla.)
Simon intercepted two passes, broke up two passes, and made two tackles against Wesleyan. He also recovered his own onside kick to open the game.

September 23, 2001
Offensive Player of the Week:
Keven Kelley, Tufts
(Junior, RB - Natick, Mass.)
Kelley rushed for 168 yards and two touchdowns as Tufts defeated Wesleyan 35-20. His 40-yard touchdown run early in the third quarter broke a 14-14 tie and his five-yard touchdown run with 21 seconds left in the quarter extended the Jumbo lead to 35-14.

Defensive Player of the Week:
Johnny Kelly, Williams
(Junior, DB - Bronxville, N.Y.)
Kelly made seven tackles and intercepted two passes to lead Williams to a 28-13 win at 2000 NESCAC co-champion Colby.

Ernie Miller, Middlebury
(Junior, DB - Rensselaer Falls, N.Y.)
Miller made seven tackles and intercepted two passes to lead Middlebury to a 21-7 win at Bowdoin. He also blocked a punt.

Rookie of the Week:
Philip Reiff, Middlebury
(Freshman, LB - Hinsdale, Ill.)
Reiff made 12 tackles, including one for a loss, starting at linebacker in his first collegiate game, a 21-7 Panther victory over Bowdoin.

Bradley Soules, Trinity
(Freshman, WR - Simsbury, Conn.)
Soules caught four passes for 84 yards and one touchdown (27 yards). He added five tackles on special teams.
