2005 Football Players of the Week

November 13, 2005
Offensive Player of the Week
Tiger Lyon, Middlebury
(Junior, QB - El Paso, Texas)
Lyon went 24-for-37 for 282 yards passing and tossed all three Middlebury touchdowns in a 21-16 victory at Tufts Saturday afternoon. Lyon threw touchdown passes for 5, 43, and 11 yards in the game, while orchestrating the game-winning drive with five minutes left to play.

Defensive Player of the Week
Terence Ryan, Bates
(Junior, DE - Milton, Mass.)
Ryan made eight tackles, 2.5 of which were for a loss, forced two fumbles and made two sacks to help the Bobcats to a 34-20 victory at Hamilton on Saturday. Ryan led the NESCAC this season in sacks with 10.5 total, and ranks fifth in Division III with 1.2 per game.

Rookie of the Week
Brian Morrissey, Williams
(Freshman, RB - Winchester, Mass.)
Morrissey tore up the field on Saturday, gaining 118 yards on 18 carries, averaging 6.6 yards per touch. He also collected a touchdown in the Ephs 34-23 victory over NESCAC rival Amherst.

Offensive Player of the Week
Michael Tomich, Colby
(Senior, WR - Houston, Texas)
Tomich scored two touchdowns, including the eventual game-winning score, and had six catches for 131 yards to lead the Mules to a 28-16 win over Tufts Saturday. Tomich kept Colby in the game with a 44-yard scoring reception as the Mules trailed at halftime, followed by a 38-yard touchdown catch to give his team the lead for good.

Defensive Player of the Week
Erik Woodring, Middlebury
(Sophomore, LB - Cos Cob, Conn.)
Woodring had a big day on defense for Middlebury Saturday, ending the Panthers game against Hamilton with eight tackles, three of which accounted for a loss of 20 yards. He also blocked and recovered a punt, and recorded a sack for a loss of six yards.

Rookie of the Week
Coleman Peeke, Bates
(Freshman, LB - Exeter, N.H.)
Peeke recorded 10 tackles in the Bobcats game against Maine rival Bowdoin on Saturday, which ranked second among his teammates on the day. Of his 10 stops, seven were solo efforts and one accounted for a loss.

Offensive Player of the Week
Ricky Leclerc, Bowdoin
(Senior, QB - Manchester, N.H.)
Leclerc set the school record with five touchdown passes in Bowdoin's 35-10 win Saturday. He went 16-for-25 for 317 yards without an interception or a sack. Leclerc found receiver Jeff Nolin for three scores, which also tied the Bowdoin school record for touchdown catches in a game.

Defensive Player of the Week
Christian Allen, Trinity
(Junior, OLB - Abington, Mass.)
Allen paced the Trinity defense with eight tackles, 1.5 of which were for a loss, a pass breakup, and a forced fumble that led to a Trinity touchdown. The Bantam's 14-0 win was the fourth shutout of the season.

Rookie of the Week
Eric NeSmith, Amherst
(Freshman, RB - Newark, N.J.)
NeSmith led the Jeffs in rushing for the third straight week, piling up 92 yards on just 13 carries, including a 46-yard touchdown run as Amherst overcame Tufts, 37-6.

Offensive Player of the Week
Justin Smith, Colby
(Junior, QB - Rockland, Mass.)
Smith threw for three touchdowns and ran for another score to lift the Mules to a 34-20 win over Hamilton. Smith had scoring passes of 47, 31, and 16 yards in helping Colby open up a 20-0 lead. With the score 27-20, Smith had a 52-yard scoring run to put the game away. He was 17-for-24 for 237 yards, and ran nine times for 61 yards.

Defensive Player of the Week
Scott Secor, Middlebury
(Junior, DB - Lake Odessa, Mich.)
Secor had a big day on defense for Middlebury as he recorded five tackles, two interceptions and a sack in a victory at Bates. Secor returned his first interception 49 yards for a touchdown, while returning his second pick 28 yards. His sack accounted for a 10-yard loss.

Rookie of the Week
Cliff Meinwieser, Trinity
(Freshman, OL - Basking Ridge, N.J.)
Meinwieser played left tackle against Bowdoin on Saturday, helping the Bantam offensive line allow zero sacks while clearing the way for the Trinity ball carriers to accumulate 318 yards rushing on 68 carries, with two rushing touchdowns.

Offensive Player of the Week
Pat Lucey, Williams
(Sophomore, QB - Plymouth, Mass.)
Lucey controlled the Ephs offense at Middlebury on Saturday, completing 14 of 17 passes for 186 yards and 2 touchdowns, including one for 36 yards. He also gained 19 yards on the ground during the game.

Defensive Player of the Week
D.J. Lanz, Trinity
(Sophomore, NT - Suffield, Conn.)
Lanz made a team-high and career-high 10.5 tackles, including 10 solo, as the Trinity defense posted its third shutout in four games. Lanz was the primary run-stuffer for a defensive line that held the Jumbos to only 30 yards on the ground on 38 carries, along with only 161 yards of total offense.

Rookie of the Week
Erik NeSmith, Amherst
(Freshman, RB - Newark, N.J.)
Rookie running back NeSmith accumulated 76 yards on 14 carries (5.4 ypc), scoring his first collegiate touchdown in a 28-9 victory at Colby on Saturday. NeSmith had a long of 33 yards in the contest.

Offensive Player of the Week
Ngai Otieno, Amherst
(Senior, TB - Gloucester, Mass.)
Otieno racked up 104 yards on 21 carries (4.95 ypc), his third consecutive 100-yard rushing game this season. He also scored on a three-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter against Middlebury to secure a 15-0 victory for the Jeffs.

Defensive Player of the Week
Mike Bracco, Colby
(Senior, DB - North Hampton, N.H.)
Bracco had a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, an interception, a pass breakup, and seven tackles (5 solo) to help the Mules move past Wesleyan 28-14 on Saturday. Bracco leads the Mules with three interceptions and in solo tackles (18).

Rookie of the Week
Ross Pietrantonio, Trinity
(Freshman, S - Everett, Mass.)
Pietrantonio had four tackles, a forced fumble, and an interception for the Bantams in a 58-0 victory against Hamilton on Saturday.

Offensive Player of the Week
Casey D'Annolfo, Tufts
(Senior, QB - West Hartford, Conn.)
D'Annolfo went 16-for-23, threw for 255 yards and tossed four touchdowns with no interceptions in a 34-7 victory over Bates on Saturday. He directed the Jumbos on a 13-play, 95-yard scoring drive that ended with a three yard toss to Brian VonAncken. In all, he connected with six different Tufts receivers.

Defensive Player of the Week
Dave Donahue, Bowdoin
(Junior, DB - Ashland, Mass.)
Donahue posted a stellar effort for the Polar Bears on Saturday at Amherst. He gave Bowdoin its first score of the day, picking off a pass and returning it 65 yards for a touchdown. Donahue also forced two fumbles and recovered another fumble. He added in five solo tackles in the game.

Rookie of the Week
Taylor Soobitsky, Hamilton
(Freshman, DL - Simsbury, Conn.)
Soobitsky sacked the quarterback a game-high three times and broke up a pass as the Continentals ended a five-game winless skid by defeating Wesleyan for the first time since 1996 on Saturday. Soobitsky finished the day with five tackles, including 3.5 for losses of 14 yards.

Offensive Co-Player of the Week
Jeff Nolin, Bowdoin
(Senior, WR - Dover, N.H.)
Nolin's 203 yards receiving on Saturday were a Bowdoin school record, but his one rush on the afternoon proved to be the difference. With 2:37 remaining, Nolin took a reverse and scampered 12 yards for the decisive touchdown in a 22-21 Polar Bear win.

Stefan Hrdina, Middlebury
(Junior, RB - W. Redding, Conn.)
In his first game as a starter, Hrdina racked up 238 rushing yards on 38 carries (6.26 ypc) in Middlebury's game at Bowdoin. The junior had three rushes of more than 20 yards in the game, including a 65-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. Hrdina also caught three passes for 29 yards, including one for a touchdown to complement his rushing score.

Defensive Player of the Week
Brian Liberty, Colby
(Junior, DB - Hollis, N.H.)
Liberty helped set up two of the Mules' three opening touchdowns with a fumble recovery and an interception. He added in eight tackles as Colby moved past Williams 35-9.
