2006 Football Players of the Week

November 12, 2006

Offensive Player of the Week
Patrick Lucey, Williams
(Junior, QB - Plymouth, Mass.)
Lucey completed 17-of-22 passes for a career-high 368 yards, tossing three touchdowns and no interceptions in a 37-7 win at NESCAC rival Amherst on Sunday. He also contributed 14 yards on the ground. Lucey finished the 2006 season with a .667 percent completion rate.

Defensive Player of the Week
Tyler Berry, Trinity
(Sophomore ILB - East Lyme, Conn.)
Berry led a Trinity defense that recorded its fifth shutout in six games over the weekend. He intercepted two passes and broke up a third on Saturday at Wesleyan while recording a team-high eight tackles and a sack.

Rookie of the Week
Tyler Tennant, Bowdoin
(Freshman, LB - Swampscott, Mass.)
Tennant led the Polar Bear defense on Saturday at Colby with 12 tackles, nine of which were solo. He finished the season fourth among his teammates in tackles with 49 stops this year.

Offensive Player of the Week
Gennaro Leo, Trinity
(Senior, RB - Everett, Mass.)
Leo carried the ball a program-record 41 times while rushing to a career-high 194 yards with a touchdown in the Bantams’ 24-0 victory over Amherst on Saturday. Leo’s 13-yard touchdown run put him at 25 during his career, tying the Trinity career record.

Defensive Player of the Week
Kevin Ryan, Middlebury
(Senior, DL - Shelton, Conn.)
Ryan had a huge day for the Middlebury defense in a 10-0 shutout at Hamilton. The senior had eight tackles on Saturday afternoon, six of them solo, to go along with three sacks. He now has 13.5 sacks on the season, a new NESCAC record.

Rookie of the Week
Oliver Kell, Bowdoin
(Freshman, QB - Westford, Mass.)
Kell was outstanding on Saturday in helping the Polar Bears overcome NESCAC rival Bates, 23-14. Kell was 18-for-25 passing for 222 yards and three touchdowns. All three touchdown tosses went to receiver Ian Merry.

Offensive Player of the Week
Jon Drenckhahn, Williams
(Senior, WR - New Canaan, Conn.)
Drenckhahn hauled in 12 catches for 111 yards on Saturday at Hamilton, scoring two touchdowns during a 15-0 win for the Ephs. His longest reception of the day was for 37 yards. He now has 127 career receptions at Williams, a new school record.

Defensive Player of the Week
Jackson Parker, Colby
(Senior, LB - Woolwich, Maine)
Parker recorded nine tackles, seven of which were solo, along with a sack and a forced fumble in the Mules’ 10-7 quadruple-overtime victory at Bates on Saturday. His two tackles for a loss totaled 14 yards.

Rookie of the Week
Aaron Rauh, Amherst
(Freshman, RB - Hudson, Ohio)
Rauh was the heart and soul of the Jeffs’ running game on Saturday against Tufts, rushing for 133 yards on 14 carries, an average of 9.5 yards-per-carry, with a long of 64 yards.

Offensive Player of the Week
Eric McGrath, Trinity
(Sophomore, QB - Lynn, Mass.)
McGrath completed touchdown passes of 49, 14 and 10 yards during a 34-0 win at Bowdoin on Saturday. He finished the game with 262 passing yards, completing 19-of-31 attempts with no interceptions.

Defensive Player of the Week
Guy Matisis, Amherst
(Sophomore, DL - Hingham, Mass.)
Matisis recorded seven tackles and two solo sacks to lead the Jeffs defense to their first shutout of the season on Saturday at Wesleyan. The Amherst defense held the Wesleyan offense to just 23 rushing yards.

Rookie of the Week
John Lawrence, Hamilton
(Freshman, RB/LB - Baldwinsville, N.Y.)
Lawrence pulled double-duty for Hamilton on Saturday at Colby. Offensively, he ran for 16 yards on 10 carries and caught two passes for seven yards. Defensively, Lawrence was credited with four solo tackles, two sacks and recovered a fumble.

Offensive Player of the Week
Nick Kehoe, Amherst
(Senior, QB - Washington Depot, Conn.)
Kehoe had career numbers in leading the Amherst offense to a 38-3 win over Colby, completing 21-of-31 passes for 330 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions.

Defensive Player of the Week
Jesse Koch, Hamilton
(Senior, S - Long Valley, N.J.)
Koch was a big factor in helping the Continentals post their first shutout since 1997. Koch was credited with a team- and season-high 11 tackles, forced a fumble, recovered a fumble, returned an interception for 13 yards and assisted on a sack for a loss of four yards.

Rookie of the Week
Danny Granatell, Wesleyan
(Freshman, WR - Franklin Lakes, N.J.)
Granatell enjoyed the best day of his young Cardinal career on Saturday at Bates, making seven catches for 111 yards in helping Wesleyan to an overtime win. He entered Saturday’s contest with just two receptions for 32 yards and a touchdown over the first three games.

Offensive Player of the Week
Gennaro Leo, Trinity
(Senior, RB - Everett, Mass.)
Leo gained 110 yards on 25 carries, scoring the Bantams’ lone touchdown on a seven-yard scramble during the second quarter in a 13-0 win at Hamilton on Saturday. Leo also caught five passes for 21 yards. Trinity rushed for 208 yards on 49 carries in the game.

Defensive Player of the Week
Joe Pepe, Wesleyan
(Senior, DB - East Haven, Conn.)
Pepe served in a variety of roles on Saturday for the Cardinals. He made nine tackles, seven of which were solo, forced a fumble, intercepted a pass in the end-zone and broke up a pass at Colby. Pepe also scored a rushing touchdown as part of an offensive drive and returned four kickoffs for 63 yards.

Rookie of the Week
Matt Gregg, Bates
(Freshman, WR - Milton, Mass.)
Gregg made five catches for 128 yards to surpass last week’s total of 99 yards, the best day for a rookie receiver during Bobcats head coach Mark Harriman’s nine-year tenure. Gregg’s 51-yard connection with Brandon Colon in the second quarter took Bates to the Williams one-yard line, setting up a touchdown and a 7-3 halftime lead.

Offensive Player of the Week
Patrick Lucey, Williams

Lucey went 19-for-27 for 238 yards with three touchdown passes on Saturday afternoon during the Ephs 41-16 victory over Trinity. He also added in 36 rushing yards on six carries, an average of 6.0 yards per carry.

Defensive Player of the Week
Steve Hauschka, Middlebury
(Senior, K/P - Needham, Mass.)
Hauschka gave the Panther defense an extra advantage on Saturday afternoon during Middlebury’s 23-0 win at Colby. The senior averaged 43.1 yards on eight punts (345 yards) while pinning the Mules inside the 20 on four different occasions. Hauschka’s five kick-off attempts all sailed inside the five yard line.

Rookie of the Week
Scott Sobolewski, Williams
(Freshman, K, Clifton Park, N.Y.)
Sobolewski was a perfect 2-for-2 for field goals on Saturday afternoon against Trinity, connecting from 20 and 28 yards out. He was also perfect on four extra-point attempts.

Offensive Player of the Week
Mark Hannon, Amherst
(Senior, WR - Glen Rock, N.J.)
Hannon got it done all over the field for the Lord Jeffs on Saturday, scoring three touchdowns during Amherst’s 31-6 win over Bates. Hannon had two receiving touchdowns as part of his seven receptions for 94 yards, along with returning a punt for a 64-yard touchdown.

Defensive Player of the Week
Erik Woodring, Middlebury
(Junior, LB - Cos Cob, Conn.)
Woodring had a solid day for the Panther defense, collecting 14 tackles, eight of which were solo, during a 10-7 victory over Wesleyan on Saturday. He also broke up a pair of passes.

Rookie of the Week
Alex Perry, Tufts
(Freshman, SS, Danvers, Mass.)
Perry was a key contributor to a solid Tufts defensive effort, finishing with five tackles, three of which were solo, an interception that he returned for 11 yards, and a half-sack.
