The Middlebury College football team won its first outright NESCAC championship with a 21-19 victory at Tufts on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Panthers, who shared the conference title with Amherst and Colby in 2000, finished 7-1.

Entering Saturday, Tufts, Williams and Trinity had a chance to share the title with Middlebury. However, at the end of the day the Panthers stand alone at the top after freshman quarterback Donald McKillop (Poway, Calif.) and junior receiver Charles Holm (Longmeadow, Mass.) connected on two touchdown passes. Middlebury also had four take-aways and stopped Tufts on fourth down five times. Tufts missed two extra points.

Trinity and Williams shared the runner-up spot with identical 6-2 conference marks on the season. Trinity closed out the 2007 campaign with a 32-14 win over Wesleyan, while Williams posted a 20-0 shutout of rival Amherst on Saturday afternoon. The Bantams and Ephs had combined to win the last six NESCAC titles.
