CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Tufts running back Will Forde (Hyde Park, Mass.) received the Boston Globe Gold Helmet Award for Division II/III Wednesday at the New England Football Writers luncheon at Harvard’s Dillon Fieldhouse. Also earning the award for the week of Oct. 20, 2008 was Brown wide receiver Buddy Farnham (Andover, Mass.) from the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS).

Forde, a senior, had 23 carriers for 130 yards and one touchdown as the Jumbos defeated Williams, 17-7, in their first win over the Ephs since 1986 (0-19-2). Forde also caught five balls for 36 yards and was named the NESCAC Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts. He has now rushed for over 100 yards in all five games this season.

With Tufts up 10-7 early in the third quarter, Forde broke loose for a 70-yard scamper to the 15-yard line. Three plays later he scored on an eight-yard rush as the Jumbos, currently third with three other teams in the NESCAC, improved to 3-2 with the win. Forde leads the NESCAC with 655 yards on 132 carries (5.0 ypr).

Tufts returns to the road to take on Amherst Saturday at 1 p.m.
