CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Williams running back Brian Morrissey (Winchester, Mass.) received the Boston Globe Gold Helmet Award for Division II/III Wednesday at the New England Football Writers luncheon at Harvard’s Dillon Fieldhouse. Also earning the award for the week of Oct. 29, 2008 was Harvard linebacker Eric Schultz (Alpharetta, Ga.) from the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS).
The senior running back Morrissey ran like the fullbacks of old on Saturday in a 14-7 win against Hamilton, toting the football 42 times for 201 yards and scoring the game-winning touchdown with 2:12 left in the ball game. Amazingly, Morrissey still managed to average 4.8 yards per carry in the game. Morrissey’s 201 yards accounted for 84 percent of Williams offensive output, as the team totaled 238 yards on the afternoon. He was named NESCAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week after the superhuman performance.
Williams is set to square off at
home against Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon. Kickoff will take
place at 1 p.m.
