MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - Williams field hockey team defeated Amherst, 3-0 on its way to the NESCAC championship and gained an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
The Ephs were very focused and motivated from the very start of the game when, at 28:44, an excellent pass by Stefanie Noering '03 gave Tori Scott '04 the opportunity to score the first goal for Williams. At 2:05 remaining of the halftime Tori Scott assisted Ephs' freshman Tara Boyd in increasing the lead to 2:0. Boyd sealed off the team's victory by scoring once more with 26:33 remaining of the second half, after an assist by Rebecca Kiselewich '04.
The Ephs outshot the Lord Jeffs 16-2, while goalie Monelle Quevillon '03 had eight saves for the shutout. "The team's intensity and focus was great," Ephs' coach Alix Rorke said. "Communication was outstanding." Coach Rorke is very proud of the team's rebounding from a 4-4 start to finish at 12-4, the NESCAC title, and a berth in the NCAA tournament. She and the team are looking forward to the NCAA tournament. Pairings for NCAA will be announced later on Sunday night.
