NESCAC Field Hockey All-Conference Teams Announced

Jennings of Williams Named Player of the Year

HARTFORD, Conn. - Junior midfielder Molly Jennings was chosen the 2002 NESCAC Field Hockey Player of the Year in a vote by the conference coaches. Jennings along with teammate and first-team selection Tori Scott led Williams College to a 14-3 mark and NESCAC Championship.

Connecticut College junior forward Emily Huffman, the 2000 NESCAC Rookie of the Year, and Bowdoin junior goalkeeper Gillian McDonald made their third consecutive appearance on the all-conference first team. Huffman, a 2001 All-American, accounted for over half of the Camels goals on the year with eight scores. McDonald allowed just 14 goals in 16 games and recorded 10 shutouts with an .870 save percentage.

Bowdoin senior Leah McClure and Colby sophomore Wendy Bonner, the conference’s leading goal scorers with 12 on the year, also earned first-team recognition. Last year’s NESCAC Player of the Year, Middlebury junior Char Glessner, was again named to the first team after leading the conference in assists (12) and points (32).

A trio of seniors were named all-conference first team defenders. Wesleyan’s Marley Aloe, Bowdoin’s Sarah Laverty and Trinity’s Susan Hoppock all make their first appearance on the all-conference list.

Junior midfielder Amanda Burrage, who led Bowdoin in assists (10), was one of four Polar Bears named to the first team. Bowdoin coach Nicky Pearson was honored by her peers as Coach of the Year after Bowdoin finished the regular season as the number one seed and ended with a 12-4 overall record.

Freshman defender Emily Grannon of Williams was named the conference Rookie of the Year. Grannon and the Ephs will travel to Messiah and face Wittenberg in the first round of the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championship.
