BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin field hockey team advanced to the 2006 NESCAC Championship Game with a 1-0 victory over Amherst in a NESCAC semifinal contest on Saturday at Ryan Field in Brunswick, Maine.

The top-seeded Polar Bears (14-1) will be looking to win their second straight NESCAC Championship and third overall in the Final on Sunday at noon against Middlebury College. The Jeffs finish their season with a mark of 8-8.

Lindsay McNamara scored the winning goal for Bowdoin midway through the second half. The Polar Bears were able to hold the Jeffs without a shot-on-goal for the entire contest, as the hosts had control of the ball in their half of the field for a majority of the game. Amherst's defense looked to be up to the task, putting up an outstanding fight by keeping Bowdoin to just one goal despite allowing ten penalty corners.

The game-winning tally came with 17:20 left in the contest as Madeleine Mcqueeney was able to find McNamara in front of the goal.

Kathleen Boucher (one goal-against, 70 minutes) had nine saves for Amherst while Kate Leonard did not face any shots during her 70 minutes in goal for the Polar Bears.
