SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - Sophomore Sarah Cannon (Atkinson, N.H.) of the Tufts University field hockey team was presented with the NCAA Elite 88 award on Friday night at the Division III Field Hockey Championship banquet.

The Elite 88 award, which was instituted this fall, is presented to the student-athlete with the highest grade point average who competes at the finals site of all 88 NCAA championships. Cannon is a math major with a near-perfect grade point average at Tufts.

The Elite 88 award was founded by the NCAA to recognize the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers.

Cannon and the rest of the Jumbo field hockey team are at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts where they will play in the NCAA Championship semi-finals on Saturday at 2:00 against Salisbury University.
