Middlebury Claims 2006 NESCAC Golf Championship

BRUNSWICK, Maine - Middlebury College, sitting in sixth place after Day One of the 2006 NESCAC Golf Championship, capped a thrilling comeback on Day Two by winning the NESCAC Golf crown on the fifth-player tiebreaker over Trinity.

The Bantams did walk away with individual honors, however, as freshman Reid Longley (Atlanta, Ga.) captured medalist honors with a two-day score of 147 (75-72) to take a one-shot win over sophomore Harrison Bane (Marblehead, Mass.) of Middlebury (74-74-148), who finished second for the second-straight year.

The Panthers carded a second-day total of 300, shaving 18 shots off their first-day score to rally to win with a total of 618. Trinity also scored a 618 (312-306), but Middlebury claimed the tiebreaker victory courtesy of the 81 carded by their fifth player to Trinity's 85. Williams, the defending NESCAC Champion, slipped to third place overall with a score of 625, seven shots off the pace. Hamilton (627) and host Bowdoin (631) rounded out the top five teams.
