Middlebury Takes Golf Championship Qualifier by One Stroke Over Trinity

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - Middlebury College won the 2008 NESCAC Golf Championship Qualifier on Sunday, Sept. 28 at the Ralph Myhre Golf Course. The Panthers shot a two-day total of 593 and have earned the right to host the spring championship, which will take place on Saturday & Sunday, April 25-26, 2009. Trinity came in second behind Middlebury, shaving one stroke off the day one deficit with a 594. Hamilton placed third (606) and Williams rounded out the top four (611).

Bowdoin cut 10 strokes off its day one score and finished in fifth with a 616. Amherst was sixth (623), followed by Wesleyan (633), Tufts (637), Bates (638), and Colby (690).

Reid Longley of Trinity was the lone player to shoot under par, as he came in with a two-day total of 141. Hamilton’s Jeff Corbett was next with an even par 142, followed by Jimmy Levins (145) and Michael McCormick (146) of Middlebury. A foursome followed in a four-way tie for fifth place, each shooting a 150. Jeff Cutter of Bowdoin, Jack Killea of Williams, Trinity’s Jay Driscoll and Lee Smith of Bates comprised the group.
