Williams Wins 2013 NESCAC Golf Championship

Berlin, Conn. – Junior Cody Semmelrock carded the day's lowest score with a 70 and collected individual medalist honors with a two-day total of 143 to lead the Williams College Ephs to first place in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Golf Championship Tournament at Shuttle Meadow Country Club this weekend. Williams opened today's round trailing the host Trinity College Bantams by two strokes, 290-292, but fired an even 300 to best Trinity by four strokes for the day and two strokes for the weekend, 592-594.

Hamilton and Middlebury tied for third at 607-apiece, as the Continentals shot a 304 yesterday and 303 today, and the Panthers followed up a 307 yesterday with a 300 this afternoon. Williams wins the league crown for the seventh time but for the first time since 2008. Trinity had earned the right to host the four-team tournament with its victory in the 10-team NESCAC Qualifying Tournament in September. The Ephs will represent the NESCAC in the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament in May.

Semmelrock improved three strokes on his Saturday score of 73 to finish one stroke better than Hamilton junior Greg Scottat the top of the leaderboard. Middlebury junior Rob Donahoe tied Trinity sophomore Nick Buenaventura for third at 145, and Bantam sophomore and reigning NESCAC Player of the Year Greg Palmer was fifth with a 147. Buenaventura led the field after yesterday's round with a 69, while Palmer shot a 71 on Saturday, before both carded 76 today. Scott shot a 73 and a 72, and Donahoe improved three strokes from Saturday to Sunday with a 74 and a 71.

Eph junior Jake Abrahams and sophomore Jake Goldenring  tied each other for seventh place at 149, and junior Dylan Dethier tied Bantams Donald Hunt and Jack Palley in 10th place at 151 to round out the top four for the champions and the runners-up. Middlebury sophomore Eric Laorr was sixth at 148, and Hamilton sophomore Mac Pivirotto was ninth at 150.
