2000-01 Men's Basketball Players of the Week

March 5, 2001
Steve Zieja, Amherst
(Sophomore, Forward- Hadley, Mass.)
Zieja averaged 17.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in two games as Amherst advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III tournament. He scored 12 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds in an 89-76 win over St. John Fisher in the first round. In the second round at Clark, Zieja posted game-highs of 23 points and nine rebounds.

Tim Folan, Williams
(Sophomore, Forward- Kensington, Md.)
Folan averaged 16.0 points and 9.9 rebounds per game and was named the Most Valuable Player of the ECAC New England Championship tournament won by the Ephs. He finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds in a 77-68 win over Suffolk, and recorded 20 points and 11 boards in a 74-53 semifinal win over Babson. In the title game, a 100-80 win over Emerson, Folan scored 16 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and handed out four assists.

Pat Fitzsimons, Amherst
(Sophomore, Forward- Durham, N.C.)
Fitzsimons scored 40 points and grabbed 37 rebounds in a trio of NESCAC tournament wins as Amherst won the inaugural conference championship tournament and earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament. He scored 11 points and pulled down 16 rebounds in a 61-46 semifinal win over Colby, and finished with 22 points and 14 boards in an 86-75 win over Trinity in the title game.

Chris Bray, Wesleyan
(Sophomore, Guard - Montague, Mass.
Bray averaged 22 points and shot 61.1 percent from three-point range (11-for-19) in two wins that gave Wesleyan the third seed in the NESCAC tournament. He scored a career-high 27 points in a 94-91 win over Tufts, and added 17 points in a 94-77 victory over Bates.

Sam Clark, Colby

(Senior, Forward - Woolwich, Maine)
Clark averaged 20.0 points and 8.5 rebounds in two Colby victories. He scored 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in a 65-58 win at Bowdoin that moved Colby into a tie for first place. He became the 30th player in the school's men's basketball history to score 1,000 points, reaching the plateau in a 74-46 win over UMaine-Farmington.

Colin Tabb, Trinity
(Junior, Forward - Somers, Conn.)
Tabb averaged 23 points and 10 rebounds in two Trinity wins. He scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in a 66-61 win at Clark. Tabb finished with 27 points and 10 boards in a 78-74 victory over Amherst. He shot 50 percent from the field, 67 percent from 3-point range, and 92 percent from the free throw line.

Tope Adekanbi, Connecticut College
(Senior, Forward - Hackensack, N.J.)
Adekanbi averaged 20.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game in two Connecticut wins. He shot 88.9 percent from the floor (16-for-18), hitting all 11 shots in a 26-point, 10-rebound performance in a 78-55 win over Coast Guard. He scored 15 points (5-of-7 from the field) and grabbed seven rebounds in an 87-63 win at Wesleyan.

Tim Folan, Williams
(Sophomore, Forward - Kensington, Md.)
Folan averaged 18.7 points in leading the Ephs to three victories. He scored a team-high 18 points in a 67-58 win over Colby and a team-high 27 points in a 70-55 victory over Bowdoin. He shot 63 percent from the field and 75 percent from the free throw line for the week.

Colin Tabb, Trinity
(Junior, Forward - Somers, Conn.)
Tabb averaged 21.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists in three Trinity wins. He shot 53.6 percent from the field (21-of-41), 42.9 percent from three-point range (6-of-14), and 87.5 percent from the free throw line (14-of-16).

Alex Wilson, Bates
(Junior, Forward - Duxbury, Mass.)
Wilson averaged 17 points and 11 rebounds, shooting 60 percent from the field as Bates won three consecutive games to run its winning streak to seven games. He scored 16 points and grabbed a career-high 15 boards in a 99-64 win over Eastern Nazarene. He scored a game-high 22 points and added seven rebounds in a 75-58 victory over Southern Maine. Wilson scored 15 points and pulled down a career-high 11 rebounds in a 75-69 victory over Colby, the first Bates win at Colby since 1995-96.

January 8, 2001
Leo Jones - Wesleyan
(Junior, Guard - Englewood, N.J.)
Jones averaged 20.0 points, 10.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 5.0 steals, and 2.0 blocks in three Wesleyan wins. He was named the Most Valuable Player of the Western Connecticut Holiday Hoopla Tournament. He recorded 16 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists, and 7 steals in a 90-89 win over Connecticut College, and finished the tournament title game with 26 points, 11 rebounds, and 3 blocked shots in a 78-76 overtime win over the host school. He blocked the final shot in regulation to send the game into overtime and tipped in his own miss at the buzzer of overtime for the game-winner. He added 18 points, 10 rebounds, and 8 steals in a 70-56 win at Coast Guard.

December 11, 2000
Dan Flaherty, Tufts
(Senior, Center - Fairfield, Conn.)
Flaherty averaged 22.8 points and 10.2 rebounds while shooting 63.5 percent from the field. He finished the week with a 33-point performance on 12-of-16 shooting in a win over Cazenovia, surpassing the 1,000-point plateau for his career. He scored 26 points and grabbed 18 rebounds in a heartbreaking loss at Hamilton, and finished with 25 points and seven rebounds in a one-point win over Babson.

December 4, 2000
Brian Daoust, Amherst
(Senior, Guard - Dover, Mass.)
Daoust equaled a school record with nine 3-pointers, scoring 39 points, in a triple overtime loss to Clark. In a 2-1 week for Amherst, Daoust converted on 17 of 26 three-point attempts (65.4 percent) and averaged 23.7 points per game.

Zeb Davis, Colby
(Senior, Forward - Skowhegan, Maine)
Davis averaged 22.5 points per game and was named the Most Valuable Player of the Colby Invitational. He hit 11 threepointers in two games, including two three-pointers in overtime in the title game win over Hamilton.

Colin Tabb, Trinity
(Junior, Forward/Guard - Somers, Conn.)
Tabb scored 17 points and grabbed a career-high 18 rebounds in an 81-68 Trinity win over Eastern Connecticut State. Tabb made seven of 12 shots from the field.

Andrew Conley, Williams
(Senior, Guard - Wakefield, Mass.)
Conley led Williams to a come-from-behind 81-80 win over St. Lawrence. He scored 20 of his 25 points in the second half, including hitting the game-winning layup. He also forced St. Lawrence's top scorer to pass off on the last possession, forcing a turnover.
