Bates Gets Past Williams in Overtime in Men's Basketball Quarterfinals

LEWISTON, Maine – Scoring a game-high 27 points, Rob Stockwell’s biggest shot came as time expired in overtime. Coming off a low screen, Stockwell ’07 (Temple, N.H.) drained a 3-pointer from the left wing, lifting Bates to a 76-73 win over Williams in the NESCAC quarterfinals at Alumni Gymnasium.

Two other Bobcats scored in double-digits. Zak Ray ’07 (Bangor, Maine) finished with 15 points and nine rebounds, while Elliott Linsley ’05 (Murrieta, Calif.) scored 13 with eight boards.

Tucker Kain ’05 (Cleveland, Ohio) led Williams with a team-high 24 points and seven rebounds. Chris Rose ’08 (Middletown, N.Y.) scored 14; Michael Graham ’05 (Sidney, N.Y.) had 11.

Bates improved to 18-7. Williams, the two-time defending NESCAC champion, finished its season at 16-9.

The Bobcats, ranked No. 3 in conference, advance to the semifinals and will play No. 2 Tufts next Saturday at 4 p.m. at Amherst College.
