2006-07 NESCAC Men's Basketball Players of the Week

February 26, 2007
Chris Shalvoy, Williams
(Junior, Guard - Rochester, N.Y.)
Shalvoy was instrumental in the Ephs' run to the 2007 NESCAC Championship, averaging 24.0 points while playing 76 of a possible 80 minutes over the weekend. Shalvoy hit 54.8-percent of his shots over the two games (17-for-31) and was an impressive 9-for-14 from behind the arc (.643), going 7-for-9 during Sunday's final against Amherst and finishing with a game-high 25 points. For the weekend, he dished the ball seven times while committing only one turnover.

Andrew Olson, Amherst
(Junior, Guard - San Diego, Calif.)
Olson scored 17 second-half points to rally the Lord Jeffs for a come-from-behind victory over Bates in the quarterfinals of the 2007 NESCAC Men's Basketball Championship. Olson knocked down all three of his three-point attempts in the second half and went 6-for-7 from the free throw line. He added in eight assists while committing only three turnovers, as the eight helpers moved him to 180 assists on the season, a new single-season record.

Drew Cohen, Colby
(Senior, Center - Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.)
Cohen averaged 24.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, 5.5 blocked shots and 4.0 assists as he led the Mules in scoring over a pair of NESCAC road victories last weekend, shooting 57.6- percent from the floor (19-for-33). On Friday at Bates, Cohen had 23 points on 8-for-13 shooting (.615), nine rebounds and three blocked shots in a 63-62 win. He followed up the performance on Saturday with a game-high 25 points, 11 rebounds, eight blocks, seven assists and no turnovers as part of an 89-84 Colby victory at Tufts. Cohen has 79 blocks so far this season and 282 during his career with the Mules.

Nick Farrell, Colby
(Senior, Point Guard - Aspen, Colo.)
Farrell averaged 31 points through two Colby victories last week while becoming the 33rd player in school history to score 1,000 points. On Wednesday at Me.-Farmington, Farrell had a game-high 23 points and seven rebounds. He followed on Saturday against NESCAC rival Bowdoin with a career-high 39 points on 11-for-19 shooting (.579) and seven three-pointers (7-12). For the week, Farrell was 20-for-39 from the floor (.513) and 10-for-23 from behind the arc while grabbing 6.5 rebounds per game.

Robert Taylor III, Trinity
(Junior, Forward - Boston, Mass.)
Taylor led the Bantams to a pair of victories over Connecticut rivals Wesleyan and Connecticut College this past weekend. Taylor scored a game-high 20 points with three steals and three blocks on Friday against Wesleyan, followed by another game-high 21 points with six rebounds on Saturday against Connecticut College. He finished the weekend 17-for-24 from the field (.708) and 4-for-4 from behind the arc while averaging 20.5 points per game and 20.0 minutes per game off the bench.

Chris Rose, Williams
(Junior, Forward - Middletown, N.Y.)
Rose averaged 26.0 points per game as he led the Ephs in scoring each night during a 2- 0 week. Tuesday night, Rose struck for 22 points as he was 7-for-11 (.636) from three-point range in a 63-61 win over Hamilton. On Saturday at Middlebury, Rose led all scores with 30 points while grabbing eight rebounds, going 9-for-15 from the floor (.600) and 6-for-10 from three (.600). For the week, Rose connected on 51.6-percent (16-for-31) of his shots while shooting an impressive 61.9-percent (13-for-21) from behind the arc.

January 22, 2007
Nick Farrell, Colby
(Senior, Guard - Aspen, Colo.)
Farrell averaged 25.0 points per game, going 16-for-29 (.552) from the floor and 12-for-21 (.571) from three-point range, as he led Colby to its first two NESCAC victories this season. Against Wesleyan on Friday evening, Farrell scored a game-high 26 points, 17 coming in the second half, on 9-for-15 shooting with five rebounds and five steals. Saturday afternoon against Connecticut College, Farrell once again led all scores with 24 points as he was 7-for-12 from behind the arc and a perfect 3-for-3 from the line. Farrell currently leads the NESCAC in scoring with an average 19.0 points per game.

Brian Baskauskas, Amherst
(Sophomore, Guard/Forward - Palo Alto, Calif.)
After only starting one game in the previous 11 outings for Amherst, Baskauskas started all three games last week, averaging 17.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.3 steals while shooting an impressive 65.5-percent from the floor (19-for-29) and going 7-for-13 (.538) from behind the arc as the Lord Jeffs went 3-0 to remain unbeaten on the season. Baskauskas had a career night at Tufts on Friday, scoring 25 points and grabbing 11 boards on 10-of-12 shooting to help his squad come from behind to defeat the Jumbos in overtime, 96-92. He chipped in 11 points on Tuesday in a victory at Wesleyan and netted 16 points on Saturday at Bates.

Kino Clarke, Trinity
(Senior, Guard - Brooklyn, N.Y.)
Clarke averaged 20.0 points, 3.2 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 2.3 assists through three Trinity wins last week. Clarke shot 56.4-percent from the floor (22-for-39), 54.6-percent from three-point range (6-for-11) and 90.9-percent from the foul line (10-for-11). Against Ursinus on Wednesday, Clarke had 28 points and four steals in an 84-80 win before earning All-Tournament Team honors at the Trinity Invitational Tournament over the weekend.

Nick Farrell, Colby

Farrell earned Tournament MVP honors at the Maine Event last weekend, averaging 16.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists as Colby picked up two wins and the tournament title. Farrell opened the weekend with 14 points, six rebounds, three steals and a pair of assists in a 78-59 win against Southern Maine on Friday before scoring 18 points along with seven assists and five rebounds in a 73-61 win over St. Joseph's (ME). Farrell leads Colby, winners of five straight games, in scoring (18.1), assists (5.2) and steals (2.1).

Fletcher Walters, Amherst
(Junior, Forward - Ann Arbor, Mich.)
Walters led the Lord Jeffs in scoring last week off the bench, contributing 14.0 points per game while averaging 19.0 minutes of time on the floor during two victories. Walters scored 12 points and grabbed five rebounds on Thursday night at MIT before pouring in a team- high 16 points in a win over previously-undefeated Brandeis on Saturday. He was 8-for-15 from the floor (.533) for the week and 4-for-6 (.667) from behind the arc while contributing 5.5 rebounds per game and two blocks.

Jake Weitzen, Tufts
(Junior, Forward - New York, N.Y.)
Weitzen averaged 18 points and seven rebounds over two victories for Tufts last week, going 13-for-20 (.650) from the floor, 4-for-6 (.667) from three-point range and a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line. During Saturday's triple-overtime victory at MIT, Weitzen netted 21 points along with 10 rebounds and three assists, scoring 10 points down the stretch to help the Jumbos overcome a 10-point deficit.

Kevin Bradley, Bowdoin
(Senior, Guard - Seekonk, Mass.)
Bradley averaged 20.5 points, 3.5 assists, 3.5 steals and went 9-for-13 from behind the arc during two victories last week. The senior captain scored a game-high 26 points, going 6-for-9 from three point range, while dishing out four assists and collecting four steals in an 81-75 victory over the University of New England on Tuesday.

Russell Martin, Trinity
(Junior, Center - East Longmeadow, Mass.)
Martin posted a game- and career-high 25 points while adding in nine rebounds and two blocked shots during a 72-55 win over Eastern Conn. St. on Tuesday, going 11-for-16 from the field. During Sunday's 71-68 win at Babson, Martin led the Bantams in scoring once again with 12 points and 10 boards. For the week, Martin averaged 18.5 points and 9.5 rebounds.

Rob Stockwell, Bates
(Senior, Forward - Temple, N.H.)
Stockwell posted back-to-back double-doubles as the Bobcats opened the 2006-07 campaign with a pair of wins at the Williams Invitational. Stockwell scored 11 points and grabbed 12 rebounds during Bates' 66-59 win over Western New England on Friday, and was the Bobcats' lone player in double figures with 25 points and 13 rebounds in a 77-51 win over Southern Vermont on Saturday. For the weekend, Stockwell averaged 18.0 points and 12.5 rebounds per game, shooting 51.6 percent.
