HADLEY, Mass. Bates junior forward Alex Gallant (Bangor, Maine) and Connecticut College sophomore forward Demetrius Porter (Virginia Beach, Va.) were named NESCAC Co-Players of the Week for Feb. 8, 2010. Gallant was a key reserve for Bates during a 2-0 weekend, which included a 76-47 win over Amherst on Friday - the first victory by the Bobcats over the Lord Jeffs since the 1987-88 season. Porter averaged a double-double during a 1-1 week for the Camels, scoring 32.0 points and grabbing 11.0 rebounds per game.
February 3, 2010 Pierce Becomes All-Time Leading Scorer for Tufts Men's Basketball
MEDFORD, Mass. By making the front-end of two free throws with 6:34 remaining in the second half of Tuesday night's Tufts University men's basketball game vs. UMass Dartmouth, Jumbo senior tri-captain Jon Pierce (Belmont, Mass.) made history. The point was the 1,786th of Pierce's career at Tufts, moving him past Greg Davis as the all-time leading scorer in the 106-year history of basketball at Tufts.
HADLEY, Mass. Senior forwards Adam Choice (Newport, R.I.) of Colby and Jon Pierce (Belmont, Mass.) of Tufts shared NESCAC Player of the Week for Feb. 1, 2010. Choice averaged 20.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game as the Mules stayed perfect in league play during a 3-0 overall week. Pierce recorded 27.3 points and 9.0 rebounds per game over three outings last week, as he dropped over 30 points in back-to-back conference contests.
HADLEY, Mass. Sophomore guard/forward David Waller (Tampa, Fla.) of Amherst was selected as the NESCAC Player of the Week for Jan. 25, 2010. In a 2-0 week on the road for the Lord Jeffs, Waller averaged 17.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.0 blocks per game while playing 27.5 minutes per contest. He shot .650 from the floor (13-for-20) and 2-for-3 from beyond the arc (.667). Waller netted a career-high 20 points on 8-of-10 shooting in Thursdays 87-69 win at Curry, adding nine rebounds and three assists.
January 21, 2010 Trinity to Dedicate Gym Floor to Former Men's Basketball Head Coach Ogrodnik
HARTFORD, Conn. Trinity will officially dedicate its gym floor for varsity basketball and volleyball as the Stanley Ogrodnik Court prior to its home game against NESCAC foe Amherst on Saturday, Jan. 23. The Trinity women will host Amherst at 1 p.m., followed by the dedication ceremony, and the Bantam men will play the Lord Jeffs at 4 p.m.
