Colby Downs Williams 3-1 in Men's Ice Hockey Quarterfinals

WATERVILLE, Maine - The Colby College men's hockey team won their New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Tournament quarterfinal game against Williams College, 3-1, at Alfond Arena on Saturday. The loss ended the Eph's (12-9-3) season, while the Mules (19-6-1) advance to the semifinals next Saturday, March 6th.
Defenseman Patrick Walsh (Easton, Conn.) scored the game's opening goal at 0:58 in the first period, just seconds into the game, and later added an assist for the winners.
Walsh's goal, assisted by Greg Osbourne (Stoughton, Mass.) and Joel Morash (Liverpool, N.S.), was the only goal scored in the first period. Nick Bayley (Cambridge, Ont.) scored shorthanded at 7:15 in the second period on an assist by Walsh to put the Mules ahead, 2-0. Colby scored again minutes later when Todd O'Hara (Minneapolis, Minn.) tallied with help from Nick Meintel (Yarmouth, Maine) and Toronto, Ont.) at 13:53.
Josh Truitt (Westlake, Ont.) scored Williams' only goal at 15:58 in the second period, from Steve Baldassarri (Brewster, N.Y.), on the power-play. Chris Ries (Pittsburgh, Pa.) stopped 32 shots in an impressive performance for Colby, while Williams goalie Brad Shirley (Hanover, N.H.) had 31 stops.
