Bowdoin Earns 3-1 Victory Over Trinity in Men's Ice Hockey Semifinals

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Bowdoin will makes it second consecutive appearance in the NESCAC Championship game after a 3-1 win over Trinity in Middlebury’s Kenyon Arena. The Polar Bears will take on Middlebury, a 9-2 winner over Hamilton, in the NESCAC Championship game on Saturday night at 7:00. The game will be a rematch of the ’05 title game, where Middlebury came away with a 3-2 win at Trinity. The Bantams end their season at 13-10-3.
Following a scoreless first period, Bowdoin took a 1-0 lead 3:09 into the first period as Jon Landry carried the puck into the zone before lifting a shot to the top left corner from the high slot. The Polar Bears took a 2-0 lead at 14:12 of the second period with a power play goal. Matt Smith sent a shot in from just in front of the blue line, before it was tipped in the slot by Landry for his second goal of the game.
Trinity turned up the heat in the second period with a couple good chances early. Simon Dionne hit the crossbar at the four-minute mark, before George Papachristopoulos made a big save on John Newhall two minutes later. The Bantams broke through at 7:46 with a power play goal to make it a 2-1 game. Brendan Timmins circled the net before finding Ryan Masucci for a quick one-timer from the left face-off circle. Trinity continued to pressure late, but could not tie the game with their goaltender pulled. Dann sealed the game for Bowdoin with an empty-netter with 15 seconds remaining.
Papachristopoulos made 30 saves in goal to earn the win, while Henry Breslin made 18 in a losing effort.
