Trinity Tops Colby in Overtime in Men's Ice Hockey Quarterfinals

WATERVILLE, Maine - Chris Diozzi (Belmont, Mass.) scored his first collegiate goal at 13:56 of overtime to lead the Trinity College men's hockey team to 3-2 victory over Colby College in a New England Small College Athletic Conference quarterfinal game Saturday at Alfond Rink.
Trinity (13-9-3) will play a semifinal game next Saturday at Middlebury College against an opponent to be determined. Colby ends its season at 15-9-1.
The Mules held 1-0 and 2-1 leads in the game only to see Trinity put up tying scores. Colby's Patrick Rutherford (Truro, Nova Scotia) scored at 12:15 of the third period to give the Mules a 2-1 lead.
The Bantams, though, tied the game at 2-2 when Bryan Crabtree (North Andover, Mass.) tallied with 3:37 left in regulation.
Diozzi, who had an assist on Crabtree's goal,
then scored 13:56 into the overtime period.
Colby got the only goal of the first period from Josh Reber (Edina,
Minn.), but Trinity got the lone goal of the second period from
John Halverson (Lexington, Mass.).
Henry Breslin (Hampton, N.H.) made 23 saves, including a fine stop late on a Colby power play in overtime, for Trinity. Ben Grandjean (Waterford, Conn.) made 40 saves for the Mules.
