Wesleyan Earns 13-9 Win Over Amherst in Men's Lacrosse Semifinal

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Wesleyan held Amherst scoreless for the game’s final 16:31 on its way to a 13-9 win over the Jeffs. The Cardinals advance to the NESCAC Championship where they will meet Middlebury, a 15-6 winner over Bates, in the title game at noon on Sunday.
Amherst led 2-0 before Wesleyan went on a five-goal run through the end of the first quarter and into the second. Glenn Adams scored a pair of goals during the run, including the final one which gave Wesleyan a 5-2 lead with 11:04 left in the second quarter. Amherst then went on a five-goal run to take a 6-5 lead with 3:29 left in the half. Chris Knacke tied the game with just 1:12 left in the half, leaving the game knotted at six heading into the intermission.
Amherst goals from Will Ferrer and Chris Hofmann, with a Wesleyan goal by Chris Meade sandwiched in between, gave the Jeffs an 8-7 lead with 9:19 left in the third quarter. The Jeffs would score only one goal in the game’s final 24:19 as the Cardinals scored six times to seal the win.
Meade led Wesleyan with four goals on the day, while Knacke and Glen Adams each had two goals and two assists. Hofmann paced Amherst with three goals and two assists, Derek Cherney had two goals and two assists, while Ferrer netted three.
