Wesleyan Advances to Men's Lacrosse Semifinals with 12-5 Win Over Williams

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - Holding a slim 4-3 advantage with 4:50 remaining before halftime, Wesleyan got a pair of goals from senior All-American middie Glenn Adams before intermission, added a 3-0 third period and scored the first two goals of the fourth quarter to take a commanding 11-3 lead with 7:10 to play.

Williams scored its first goal in nearly 30 minutes of action when junior Chris Merwin netted his second goal of the game, and 19th of the year, with 6:25 left but Wesleyan went on for the 12-5 victory in a first-round NESCAC tournament game. Wesleyan advances to the NESCAC semifinals at Middlebury College Saturday, May 6, facing Bowdoin, a 12-8 victor over Amherst in a first-round matchup.

Wesleyan, seeded second in the tournament, avenged an 11-10 loss to Williams on April 22.
In addition to his two second-period tallies, Adams had a goal in the first quarter, an assist in both the second and third periods and a fourth-quarter marker to pick up six points on the day and reclaim team scoring leadership with 41 points (12 G, 29 A).

Wesleyan sophomore Grayson Connors, with two goals and two assists vs. Williams, slipped to second with 34 G and 6 A for 40 points.

Wesleyan goalie Charlie Congleton kept pace with his seasonal figures as he logged 10 saves while allowing four goals in 56 minutes of action. His .722 save percentage and 5.57 goals-against average will keep him among the top-five nationally in both categories.
