2007 NESCAC Men's Lacrosse Players of the Week

Alex Palmisano, Middlebury
(Senior, Goalkeeper - Southport, Conn.)
Palmisano was stellar in goal for the Panthers over the weekend as he helped his squad capture the 2007 NESCAC Men's Lacrosse Championship, the seventh-straight title for Middlebury. Palmisano made 13 stops in an 8-7 win over Tufts on Saturday in the semifinals, then posted 14 saves in an 11-6 victory over Wesleyan on Sunday. For the weekend, Palmisano recorded a .675 save percentage and a 6.50 goals against average.

April 30, 2007
Matt Harrigan, Tufts
(Sophomore, Goalkeeper - Darnestown, Md.)
Harrigan was the backbone for the Jumbos in two victories last week, helping his team secure the number-one seed in the 2007 NESCAC Men's Lacrosse Championship and the right to host the semifinals and championship. Wednesday afternoon at Amherst, Harrigan made 15 saves in an 11-9 win. He followed up the performance with 16 saves, including 10 in the second half, in a 7-6 overtime victory over Middlebury on Saturday, the first win by the Jumbos over the Panthers in 40 years. He finished the week with a .674 save percentage.

Russ Follansbee, Wesleyan
(Sophomore, Attacker - Deerfield, Mass.)
Follansbee scored five goals and added four assists to help the Cardinals post a 2-0 week and claim the top spot in the NESCAC standings heading into the final week of the season. Against NESCAC rival Trinity on Wednesday, Follansbee had three goals and four assists. He closed out the week on Saturday at Middlebury by scoring two goals, including the game-winner in overtime, during a 5-4 win. Follansbee, who has scored six of Wesleyan's 13 game-winners this season, has netted the decisive goal in three of the Cardinals last four NESCAC games.

Michael Vrla, Williams
(Junior, Attacker - Paradise Valley, Ariz.)
Vrla scored 13 of the Ephs' 18 goals last week as his team posted a 1-1 record. Vrla tallied seven goals in a 9-8 victory over Skidmore on Tuesday before adding six more in a 10-9 overtime loss to NESCAC rival Amherst. Vrla leads the Ephs with 21 goals and is second on the team with 23 points this season.

Kevin Mullins, Bowdoin
(Senior, Midfielder - Duxbury, Mass.)
Mullins had a hand in six of the Polar Bears' nine goals during a 9-7 victory over Trinity on Saturday afternoon, scoring a career-high four goals along with two assists. The senior captain is second on the team in scoring this season with 13 points.

Dixon Hargrove, Williams
(Junior, Attack - Wallingford, Pa.)
Hargrove continued his hot start to the season for the Ephs, netting four goals and three assists in a 1-1 week for Williams. On Saturday at Bates, Hargrove scored four goals and assisted on a fifth in a 12-10 win over the Bobcats. Earlier in the week, Hargrove assisted on two goals in a 7-6 loss to Keene St. He leads the Ephs with 19 points on seven goals and 12 assists so far this season.

Connor Wells, Trinity
(Sophomore, Midfielder - Haddam, Conn.)
Wells dominated the face-off circle last week for the Bantams, taking 10-of-12 with 12 ground balls and an assist in a win over Colby on Saturday. During a loss at Lynchburg on Wednesday, Wells won 12 out of 15 face-offs and picked up 10 ground balls.

Matt Harrigan, Tufts
(Sophomore, Goalkeeper - Darnestown, Md.)
Harrigan provided the defensive backbone for the Jumbos during a pair of wins last week, making a total of 26 saves with a save percentage of .591. On Tuesday, Harrigan had 14 saves in a come-from-behind victory at Roanoke, 13-12. He closed out the week with 12 saves while allowing only six goals during a 9-6 win at Wesleyan, as Harrigan made five stops in the third quarter as part of a scoreless streak of 35:55.

Tom Petty, Middlebury
(Sophomore, Attack - Newburyport, Mass.)
Petty scored three goals and added an assist as the Panthers opened the conference slate with a 10-9 victory over Connecticut College on Sunday. The sophomore assisted on Middlebury's only goal of the first quarter before tallying a goal in each of the remaining three quarters, including the go-ahead goal in the fourth that broke an 8-8 tie.

Matt Chadwick, Bowdoin
(Senior, Attack - Needham, Mass.)
Chadwick scored five of the Polar Bears' nine goals in a 9-6 comeback victory over Connecticut College on Saturday. Chadwick helped erase a three-goal deficit before halftime, followed by scoring Bowdoin's only goal in the third quarter. He sealed the victory for the Polar Bears in the fourth quarter, scoring twice within a nine-second span, finishing the game with five goals and two assists.
