Men's Soccer Championship Field Set

First Round Play Begins on Sunday at Middlebury

HARTFORD, Conn. – Regular season play concluded today and the pairings were set for the first round of the NESCAC Men’s Soccer Championship tournament to be contested Sunday at Middlebury College.

Middlebury (6-1-2, 7-5-2) earned the second seed and will face seventh-seeded Bates (2-4-3, 6-5-3) at 1 p.m. on Dragone Field. Tufts (6-3-0, 11-3-0) is seeded third and faces sixth-seeded Wesleyan (4-4-1, 9-4-1) in the tournament’s first game at 10:30 a.m. on South Street Field. Fourth-seeded Amherst (5-2-2, 7-5-2) will play fifth-seeded Bowdoin (5-3-1, 9-4-1) at 1:00 p.m. on South Street Field. Tufts and Amherst finished with the same winning percentage, but Tufts defeated Amherst 1-0 to earn the tie-breaker and the third seed.

Williams, which posted an 8-1-0 record in conference play, earned the top seed for the tournament. The three first-round winners will join Williams in the conference tournament semifinals. The Ephs will host the semifinals on Saturday, November 3 and will host the championship game on Sunday, November 4.

The top seven teams in regular season conference play qualify for the NESCAC championship tournament. The top-seeded team hosts the semifinal and final rounds, while the other six teams compete in first-round action at a pre-determined site. The top seed faces the lowest remaining seed in one semifinal and the other two first round winners face off in the other semifinal.
