Williams Finishes Unbeaten to Earn Top Seed, First Round Bye

HARTFORD, Conn. - Williams College has earned the top seed and a first round bye in the NESCAC Men’s Soccer Championship. Williams, who finished the regular season with an 8-0-1 mark, will host the semifinals and finals on Saturday-Sunday, November 8-9.

Bowdoin (6-1-2 NESCAC, 11-1-2 overall) will be the second seed overall and will host seventh seed Trinity (2-6-1 NESCAC, 3-9-2 overall). The Polar Bears beat Trinity 2-0 during regular season play.

Amherst (6-2-1 NESCAC, 10-3-1 overall) enters the tournament as the third seed and will host sixth seed Wesleyan (4-5 NESCAC, 6-7 overall). Amherst defeated the Cardinals 1-0 in overtime when the squads met earlier this year.

Fifth seed Tufts (4-4-1 NESCAC, 6-6-2 overall) will travel to fourth seed Middlebury (5-2-2 NESCAC, 10-2-2 overall) in other first round action. The Jumbos dropped a 2-1 decision to Middlebury in a regular season meeting at Tufts.

Predetermined tiebreaking procedures were used to seed teams with identical winning percentage. Trinity and Connecticut College each finished regular season play 2-6-1. In head-to-head competition, Trinity defeated Connecticut College to earn the seventh and final playoff spot.

The top seven teams qualify for the NESCAC Championship. First round games will be played on Sunday, November 2 at 12:30 p.m. First round winners will advance to the semifinals at Williams on Saturday, November 8. Teams are rebracketed entering the semifinal round with number one seed Williams playing the lowest remaining seed.
