WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – After waiting nearly three days, Amherst first year Andrew Yaraghi knocked off classmate Ben Fife 6-2, 6-2 to claim the singles title at the ITA Division III Regional Championships on Wednesday.

Earlier in the week, senior Trey Meyer and junior Matt Micheli of Williams teamed up to win the doubles crown. The tournament was hosted by Williams and included players from 10 NESCAC teams.

Originally scheduled for Sunday, the singles championship was postponed and relocated to Amherst due to academic obligations. With his win, Yaraghi punched his ticket to the ITA National Small College Championships at the Copeland-Cox Tennis Center in Mobile, Alabama.

The ITA National Small College Championships are comprised of the eight regional champions (and/or at-large selections) from NCAA Divisions II and III, NAIA and Junior/Community Colleges. The tournament will run from October 11-14.

Meyer and Micheli defeated senior
Matt Bettles and Rob Crampton of Bates 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 in the finals of the doubles draw. They will also move on to the ITA National Small College Championships. After taking home the regional title along with senior Bryan Chow last fall, Meyer went on to win the Division III National Championship.

The weekend's singles draw featured 64 players. Joining Yaraghi and Fife in the quarterfinals were Mark Kahan (Amherst), Palmer Campbell (Middlebury), Noah Bragg (Bowdoin), Alex Johnston (Middlebury).

Williams was well represented in the quarterfinal round of the doubles draw. Chow moved on along with first year Brian Astrachan. Meanwhile, senior Felix Sun and first year Alex Schidlovsk also advanced.

Players from Colby, Connecticut College, Trinity, Tufts and Wesleyan also participated in the annual event. Complete brackets for both singles and doubles are included above.
