Rowing Championships Take Place This Weekend

Conference Champions Declared as Part of ECAC-NIRC

HADLEY, Mass. – The 2010 NESCAC Men's and Women's Rowing Championships take place this weekend as part of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) National Invitational Rowing Championship, which will be held at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. The team that wins Sunday's varsity eight race will be declared the conference champion.

Last year, the ECAC-NIRC was suspended due to high winds at Cooper River in Camden County, N.J., meaning that the conference champion was declared based on the results of the New England Rowing Championship (NERC) at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass.

The Williams men earned the NESCAC title for the first time since the title was first handed out in 2004. The Ephs recorded a time of 6:02.824 in the varsity eight grand final, being out Trinity which came in second at the NERC with a time of 6:04.215.

The Williams women secured their fourth consecutive NESCAC title and fifth overall with a 6:55.884 time in the varsity eight grand final. Bates was second with a time of 6:58.086 atthe NERC.

During the 2010 NERC this past weekend at Lake Quinsigamond, the Ephs took both the men's and women's varsity eight grand final. Williams finished the women's event in 6:59.646, roughly 6.5 seconds ahead of Bates. Trinity was sixth overall in 7:21.211.

In the men's varsity eight grand final, Williams edged Trinity by .585 seconds, completing the race in 6:18.123. Bates was fifth (6:35.804) while Wesleyan was sixth (6:39.228) overall.
