Williams Wins 2012 NCAA Rowing Title
WEST WINDSOR, N.J. - Williams College once again came out on top at the NCAA Rowing Championships, as the Ephs swept their way to a seventh consecutive and eighth overall national crown at Lake Mercer in West Windsor, N.J.
Williams won the second varsity eight grand final in 6:49.74, then took the first varsity grand final, and the individual NCAA crown along with it, in 6:31.98.
The pair of performances gave the Ephs 42 points and the national championship trophy. It is the fourth year in a row that the Williams first varsity eight has won the individual championship.
Bates finished as the runner-up to Williams for the fourth year in a row. The Bobcats came in second in the second grand final with a time of 6:58.34 before claiming second in the first varsity eight grand final with a gutsy performance over the last 500 meters, posting a time of 6:35.14.
Bates' time in the first grand final was just 0.80 seconds better than third-place William Smith. The Bobcats completed the championship with 37 points.
Trinity amassed a total of 21 points to claim fifth overall at the championship. The Bantams placed fourth in the second varsity eight grand final (7:04.24) and were sixth in the first grand final (6:53.28).
Rowing for Williams in the first varsity eight were Dana Golden, Annie Haley, Jane McClellan, Lindsay Olsen, Abbie Deal, Emma Pelegri-O'Day, Julia May, Dorothy MacAusland, and coxswain Fiona Wilkes.
