2006 Softball Players of the Week

May 8, 2006
Alana Frost, Williams
(Senior, Second Baseman - Oakland, Calif.)
Frost batted .667 (6-for-9) as the Ephs went 3-0 on the weekend en route to their third consecutive NESCAC Softball Championship. Over the weekend, Frost had a double, a home run, two stolen bases, two RBIs and three runs scored. Frost scored the game- winning run in Williams’ 6-5 win over Tufts in the championship game on Sunday, after knocking in the only run of a 1-0 victory over Tufts on Saturday. Frost leads the NESCAC this season with a .454 batting average.

Lauren Olmsted, Colby
(Senior, Pitcher - Lexington, Mass.)
Olmsted allowed no earned runs while going the distance during a nine-inning 3-2 victory over Tufts on Saturday afternoon. Earlier in the week, Olmsted surrendered just one earned run in a 6-2 win over Thomas and a 3-1 loss to St. Joseph’s, lowering her league-best ERA this season to 1.01. Through the three outings, Olmsted struck out 15 batters. Olmsted helped her own cause on Saturday with an RBI single in the ninth against Tufts to help pull out the win.

Sara Dougherty, Trinity
(Junior, Pitcher - Long Valley, N.J.)
Dougherty went 4-0 on the mound, totaling 27 innings pitched through three starts and one relief appearance. Over the week, she allowed 19 hits, four earned runs and just one walk while striking out 16 batters. Dougherty pitched complete games against Wesleyan, Western Conn. St. and Bates, while pitching six innings of relief in the second game against Bates to put the Bantams into the NESCAC tournament. At the plate, she homered in game one against Bates and had an RBI tripe in the second game.

Clara Hard, Williams
(Senior, Pitcher - Seattle, Wash.)
Hard went 2-0 on the week from the mound, striking out 16 batters through 14 innings of work while allowing one hit and four walks. She tossed a no-hitter on Wednesday for a 2-0 victory against Keene St. On Saturday, Hard shutout visiting Middlebury for a 5-0 win. She is now 10-3 on the season with a 2.01 ERA.

Laura Noel, Williams
(Senior, First Base - Houston, Texas)
Noel hit .800 (8-for-10) during a 4-0 week for the Ephs, adding in four walks for an on-base percentage of .857. She reached base 10 consecutive times over a three- game span last week, and had two doubles and a triple while driving in five runs, amassing a slugging percentage of 1.300.

Miya Warner, Amherst
(Senior, Pitcher - Berkeley, Calif.)
Warner extended her winning streak on the hill to 10 games with a pair of complete-game victories last week, a 3-1 win over Wellesley on Thursday followed by a 6-2 decision against Middlebury on Saturday. Against Wellesley on Thursday, Warner allowed four hits and one run while striking out 10 batters through seven innings. In the first game of a doubleheader against the Panthers on Saturday, Warner permitted five hits and two runs while striking out seven through seven. She also tossed 1.1 innings of scoreless relief in the nightcap against Middlebury. On the week, Warner held opponents to an average of .167

Danielle Lopez, Tufts
(Sophomore, Second Base - Danvers, Mass.)
Lopez hit a solid .467 (7-for-15) during a 5-0 week for the Jumbos, batting in five runs while belting two homers along with three walks (.556 OBP) and a stolen base. Her three-run home run in the second game against Williams on Sunday accounted for the winning runs, as the Jumbos swept aside the visiting Ephs in a rematch of last year’s NESCAC final. Earlier in the week, Lopez went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, two RBIs and a home run in the second game against Springfield on Tuesday. Defensively, Lopez was perfect on her 20 opportunities with 12 putouts and eight assists.

Molly Gaebe, Wesleyan
(Junior, Pitcher/OF - Miami, Fla.)
Gaebe hit .529 over Wesleyan’s final six games in California, going 9-for-17 with 10 RBIs and four runs. She belted two three-run home runs and a pair of doubles. Gaebe also pitched 13.1 innings, allowing 14 hits and striking out 13 batters, posting a 1-1 record along with a save.

Sara Dougherty, Trinity
(Junior, Pitcher/First Base - Long Valley, N.J.)
Dougherty not only tossed a six-hit shutout with six strikeouts and one walk but also helped her own cause by driving in the game-winning run with a single in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Trinity a 1-0 victory over SUNY New Paltz Saturday evening. The Ban-tams are off to a 2-0 start this season.
