HADLEY, Mass. - 2008 NESCAC Softball Champion Tufts had its run in the 2008 NCAA Softball Tournament come to a close over the weekend, as the Jumbos went 2-2 and finished the season at 30-11. Seeded second in the seven-team regional hosted by Rhode Island College, Tufts started off on Thursday with a 6-3 victory over Rivier.

St. Joseph's Ends Tufts' Run in NCAA Softball Regional
PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Third-seeded St. Joseph’s eliminated second-seeded Tufts, 3-1, in game 11 of the 2008 NCAA Softball New England Regional hosted by Rhode Island College. The game was halted after five innings on Saturday, May 10 due to darkness and resumed on Sunday morning at 10 a.m. The Golden Eagles (33-7) advance to face top-seeded Rhode Island College at 12:00 p.m. in the regional championship game.

Tufts Falls to St. Joseph's in Eight Innings in NCAA Softball Regionals
PROVIDENCE, R.I. — St. Joseph’s College senior starting pitcher Jennifer Martinez (Bay Shore, N.Y.) struck out the game’s third batter to become the all-time NCAA Div. III softball career strikeout leader, breaking the previous mark of 1,125, and scored what proved to be the game-winning run in the top of the eighth inning to lead the third-seeded Golden Eagles past second-seeded Tufts, 3-0, in game seven of the 2008 NCAA Div. III New England Regional Softball Tournament, hosted by Rhode Island College at the Dayna A. Bazar Softball Complex.

Tufts Stays Alive in NCAA Softball Regional with 5-1 Win
PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Second-seeded Tufts eliminated fourth-seeded Wellesley, 5-1, in game 10 of the 2008 NCAA Softball New England Regional, hosted by Rhode Island College at the Dayna A. Bazar Softball Complex.

2008 NESCAC Softball All-Conference Teams Announced
HADLEY, Mass. - Tufts sophomore first baseman Christy Tinker (Woodbridge, Conn.) has been selected by the conference coaches as the 2008 NESCAC Player of the Year. Tinker is part of a Jumbos squad that went 11-1 in the NESCAC East Division this season along with capturing the 2008 NESCAC Softball Championship, the second-straight NESCAC title for Tufts and fifth in program history. Tinker becomes the seventh player from Tufts to receive the league’s top honor in the last eight years.
