Inaugural Men's Squash All-Conference Team Announced
Trinity Sweeps Individual Postseason Honors
|
HADLEY, Mass. - Trinity College sophomore Baset
Chaudhry (Lahore, Pakistan) has been named the 2008 NESCAC
Men’s Squash Player of the Year, while freshman teammate
Andres Vargas Heredina (Bogota, Columbia) was named the Rookie of
the Year, as determined by the conference coaches. The pair were a
part of a Bantam squad that cruised to the 2008 NESCAC Men’s
Squash title earlier this month, the second NESCAC crown in a row
for Trinity.
Chaudhry was one of three Bantams named to the inaugural NESCAC
Men’s Squash All-Conference Team, which is comprised of 10
individuals. Joining Chaudhy from Trinity were juniors Gustav
Detter (Malmoe, Sweden) and Manek Mathur (Mumbai, India). Chaudry
and Detter have both posted undefeated records this season, going
9-0 and 12-0, respectively, while Mathur is 14-1, as the three
helped Trinity win its 10th-consecutive Potter Trophy in the
College Squash Association (CSA) National Team Championship. In his
first season with the Bantams, Rookie of the Year Vargas owned a
14-1 record.
Bates and Williams both had two individuals earn All-NESCAC
honors. The Bobcats senior tandem of Ricky Weisskopf (San Salvador,
El Salvador) and Sean Wilkinson (London, England) each earned
All-Conference recognition. The two played a big part in Bates
capturing the Hoehn (B) Division at the CSA championships, the
program’s best finish ever. Weisskopf also recently received
the CSA’s Skillman Award, one of the highest honors in
collegiate squash. The Ephs were represented on the All-NESCAC
Men’s Squash team by senior Jon Barry (Weston, Mass.) and
sophomore Ethan Bushbaum (Princeton, N.J.).
Rounding out the 2008 NESCAC Men’s Squash All-Conference
Team were senior Mark Rapisarda (Brooklyn, N.Y.) of Amherst,
sophomore Palmer Higgins (Morristown, N.J.) of Bowdoin, and senior
Jake Gross (Washington, D.C.) of Tufts. Gross finished his career
with the Jumbos this season with the program’s all-time wins
record.
Coach of the Year honors went to Trinity’s Paul Assaiante.
In his 14th season as the Bantams’ head coach, Assaiante
guided his team to a perfect 18-0 record this season, as Trinity
has now won 183 consecutive matches.
