Playing at the No. 1 position, Lillie had a breakthrough weekend to give Connecticut College a boost at the NESCAC Championship. He won twice over Tufts (6-11, 11-9, 11-3, 11-5) and Hamilton (13-11, 12-10, 11-8) and narrowly lost a five-game match  to Amherst (11-9, 13-11, 9-11, 9-11, 9-11).

Arjoon pulled out a five-game victory to propel Bates to third at the NESCAC Championship, its best finish since the 2014 season. With the 3rd/4th place match against Middlebury tied at 4-4, and 2-2 in games Arjoon defeated Middlebury’s Alexa Comai, who had beaten her 3-0 in January, in five games (11-5, 12-10, 6-11, 11-3, 11-7).

Zonis defeated her William Smith opponent Michaelann Denton on Saturday, 3-1 (11-7, 10-12, 11-6, 11-2), for her fourth win of the season.

Playing at the top spot for the Bobcats, Hatata ran his individual season record to 10-1 with two 3-0 victories over his opponents from Franklin & Marshall and Amherst last weekend. On Saturday, Hatata helped the Bobcats defeat the Diplomats for the first time since 2009 by posting a 3-0 (12-10, 11-5, 11-7) win over Cole Osborne and followed up with a 3-0 (11-3, 11-9, 11-2) victory over Amherst’s Michael Groot to help lift Bates to an 8-1 win over the Purple & White on Sunday at Amherst.

Chaix won an exciting five-game match over Alex Kamisher of Wesleyan (8-11, 12-10, 12-10, 5-11, 11-9) on Sunday. He went 2-1 over the weekend beating Sam Duffy of Stanford, 3-0 (11-4, 11-4, 11-3), and losing a tight four-game match to Cameron Bahadori of Amherst (4-11, 11-4, 11-9, 11-8).

O’Brien defeated Wesleyan’s Sarah Clothier, 3-2 (12-10, 7-11, 11-3, 6-11, 11-9), in the deciding match to lift Colby past the Cardinals, 5-4.

Laila Samy

Junior • Cairo, Egypt

Samy continued to win at the No. 1 position putting the Cardinals in position to earn wins over Bowdoin (5-4 on Jan. 11), Colby (5-4 on Jan. 14) and Hamilton (6-3 on Jan. 22) for the first time in several seasons. Samy swept her match against the Continentals, 11-0, 11-6, 11-6.

Bristol went undefeated last week, helping Bowdoin win its first two matches of the season. He won two matches at the No. 5 spot against Hobart (11-6, 11-8, 11-8) and Hamilton (11-9, 11-4, 11-9). He also won the deciding match in five sets at No. 4 (11-7, 5-11, 10-12, 11-9, 11-6) in Bowdoin’s 5-4 upset over Wesleyan.

Baek went 3-0 in her matches to lead the Ephs to road wins over George Washington, Franklin and Marshall, and Virginia last weekend. Playing at the No. 3 position on Friday, Baek won in five sets (11-1, 10-12, 7-11, 11-7, 11-4) over Lauren Johnston of Franklin and Marshall despite being down 2-1. On Saturday, she won in four games over Mary Jo Mahfood of George Washington (12-10, 2-11, 11-7, 13-11) and then completed her weekend sweep on Sunday with another four-game win over Julia Thompson of Virginia (11-4, 9-11, 11-8, 11-6).

Burt, a captain, continued his dominant play by defeating his opponents from Middlebury and Williams last weekend. On Saturday, Burt beat Middlebury’s Jack Kagan, 3-2 (7-11, 11-0, 9-11, 12-10, 11-8). On Sunday, he defeated Williams’ Carl Shuck, 3-1 (11-8, 10-12, 11-9, 11-6), to run his individual record to 6-1.His only loss is to Trinity in the first match of the season in November.

Dunham defeated both of her opponents from Middlebury and Williams, 3-0, last weekend. On Saturday, she beat Middlebury’s Mira Chugh (11-8, 11-7, 11-6). On Sunday, Dunham defeated Williams’ Alyssa Ritchie (11-7, 11-8, 11-10).
