WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Williams College men's swimming and diving team became the first to surpass 2,000 points Sunday as it cruised to the 2006 NESCAC Men's Swimming & Diving Championship at the Robert Muir and Carl Samuelson Pool.

The championship was the fourth consecutive for Williams, and the sixth in the seven-year tenure of head coach Steve Kuster. The Ephs finished with 2,068 total points, over 500 more than runner-up Tufts University, which compiled 1,522. Amherst College finished in third place with 1,354 points.

Williams College senior Will Cunningham was named the Swimmer of the Meet for the fourth straight championship, and also earned the award for high career points by a senior swimmer. Mike Salmon of Hamilton was named Diver of the Meet and also earned the award for high career points by a senior diver. Hamilton co-diving coaches Todd Kolean and James Ray were named Diving Coaches of the Year and Tufts head coach Adam Hoyt earned Swim Coach of the Year honors.

Cunningham finished the meet with three individual titles (200 IM, 100 back and 100 free) and four relay titles (200 medley, 800 free and 400 medley and 400 free). He won the 100 free Sunday with a meet record time of 45.43 seconds, and helped the Ephs finished the meet in style in the 400 free relay as he joined Brad Brecher, Zack Orjuela and Nick Gallucci in setting a meet record with a winning time of 3:04.03.

Salmon won the 3-meter diving Sunday, outpointing Williams College's Tim Nolen, who finished second, 484.55 points to 450.90 points. Tufts University's Jonathan Godsey won an individual title in the 200 back with a time of 1:51.32, and Bowdoin College's Roger Burleigh set a new NESCAC and meet record with a winning time of 1:51 in the 200 fly.

The other wins on the final day belong to the Ephs. Junior Stephen Spinelli won his third individual title of the championships with a time of 15:49.60 in the 1,650 free. Cunningham's meet record in the 100 free followed, and Henry Felker then won the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:08.04.
