Amherst Finishes Second at 2007 NCAA Women's Swimming & Diving Championships
HOUSTON, Texas - Amherst College placed second at the 2007 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, claiming 320 points and finishing behind champion Kenyon by 218 points. The Jeffs were one of three NESCAC teams to place in the top ten at the meet, as Williams finished sixth with 220 points while Middlebury ended the three-day event in eighth with 179. The championships were hosted at the University of Houston's Campus Recreation and Wellness Center Natatorium.
Brittany Sasser of Amherst was named the swimmer of the meet after a series of record-setting performances. On Saturday, she lowered her 2006 record in the 200-yard backstroke to 1:57.55 in the morning preliminary, then to 1:59.15 in winning the championship. Her old mark was 1:59.87, set in 2006 at Minneapolis, Minn. The junior had previously set a new record in the 100-yard backstroke Friday.
The Jeffs took home the 800-yard freestyle relay, as Sasser teamed with Margaret Ramsey, Alex Lee and Meaghan Stern to win the event
Middlebury junior Marika Ross took top honors in both the 100 and 200-yard butterfly events.
