BRUNSWICK, Maine - Four-time defending champion Williams College took a commanding lead after the first day of competition at the 2007 NESCAC Men's Swimming and Diving Championship at Bowdoin College on Friday. The Ephs accumulated 716.5 points on day one, giving them a substantial lead over second-place Amherst (499) and third-place schools Middlebury (474) and Tufts (474).

Williams two individual crowns and both relays on Friday. Norman Scott won the 50-yard butterfly for the Ephs, with Steve Spinelli claiming the 500-yard freestyle race. Williams also finished first in the 200 freestyle relay and 400 medley relay to earn their first-day advantage.

Middlebury had a pair of individual winners as well, as Rob Collier captured the 200-yard individual medley, while rookie Brooks Farrar made a splash with his victory in the one-meter diving competition.

Other winners included Colby's Jabez Dewey in the 50 backstroke, Tufts'
Lawrence Chan in the 50 breaststroke and Connecticut College's Grant Moryan in the 50 freestyle.

Action starts back up with Trials at 10:00 a.m. at Greason Pool on Saturday morning.
