2007-08 NESCAC Swimming & Diving Performers of the Week
February 11, 2008
Evan Mullin, Colby
(Senior - Winnetka, Ill.)
Mullin claimed two individual races and led off the winning
200-yard Medley Relay and the 400-yard Freestyle Relay for the
Mules during their meet with NESCAC rival Bowdoin last week. Mullin
had a winning time of 47.92 in the 100-yard Freestyle and set a
pool record in the 200-yard Freestyle with a time of 1:44.58.
Kelsey Potdevin, Colby
(Junior - Juneau, Alaska)
Potdevin broke three Colby records last week during the
Mules’ meet with Bowdoin. Potdevin set a pool record with her
50-yard Backstroke performance in the 200-yard Medley Relay with a
time of 27.58. She then broke the program record in the 100-yard
and 200-yard Backstroke events with times of 58.90 and 2:09.43,
respectively. During the 400-yard Freestyle Relay, Potdevin posted
a personal-best mark of 53.86.

Michael Bailey, Wesleyan
(Freshman - Demerest, N.J.)
Bailey claimed three individual races during the Cardinals’
meet against Bowdoin and Colby last week. Bailey won the 100-yard
Breaststroke in 1:01.30, the 200-yard Breaststroke in 2:12.94, and
the 400-yard Individual Medley in 4:16.78.
Gary Roberson, Williams
(Freshman - Tigard, Ore.)
Roberson came away with the 500-yard and 1,650-yard Freestyle
events during the Ephs’ win over Middlebury. Roberson had a
time of 4:42.64 in the 500 and finished the 1,650 in 16:14.85.
Kelly Norsworthy, Colby
(Senior - West Hartford, Conn.)
Norsworthy claimed two individual events and was part of the
winning 200-yard Medley Relay team for the Mules in a quad meet
against Bowdoin, Trinity and Wesleyan over the weekend. Norsworthy
won the 100-yard and 200-yard Breaststroke with times of 1:06.64
and 2:24.16, respectively. She also placed second in the 100-yard
Freestyle with a personal best time of 54.68.

Chris Vorlicek, Tufts
(Freshman - Del Mar, Calif.)
Vorlicek won the 400-yard Individual Medley with a pool record
time of 4:15.95 during Saturday’s dual meet with MIT and also
finished second in both the 500-yard and 1,000-yard Freestyle
events.
Kendra Stern, Amherst
(First Year - Albuquerque, N.M.)
Stern, who currently holds the best times in the conference this
season in the 50-yard and 100-yard Freestyle, won the 200-yard
(1:53.83) and 500-yard Freestyle (5:03.77) events in helping the
Jeffs overcome Union last week by a score of 142.5 to 97.5.

Chris Millen, Williams
(Senior - Richboro, Pa.)
Millen helped the Ephs to victory in their meet against Tufts and
Wesleyan last weekend. After a strong showing of 1:52.50 in the
200-yard Butterfly, Millen posted a victory in the 200-yard
Backstroke with a time of 1:55.50. He also helped the Ephs’
400-yard Freestyle Relay team earn a win with a split time of 47.38
seconds.
Marika Ross, Middlebury
(Senior - Shorewood, Wis.)
During Saturday’s meet against Hamilton, Ross set a new pool
record at Middlebury in the 100-yard Butterfly with a time of 57.16
seconds and won the 200-yard Butterfly with a time of 2:06.00. Ross
was also part of the winning 400-yard Medley Relay and anchored the
400-yard Freestyle Relay for the Panthers.

Ben Wampler, Williams
(Freshman - Glencoe, Ill.)
Wampler helped lead the Ephs past Amherst over the weekend by
winning the 50-yard and 100-yard Freestyle events. Wampler finished
the 50-yard event with a time of 21.15, while he completed the
100-yard event with a time of 47.62.
Brittany Sasser, Amherst
(Senior - Belmont, Mass.)
Sasser set three individual records at Pratt Pool in helping the
Jeffs earn a victory over Williams over the weekend. Sasser came
away with wins in the 100- and 200-yard Backstroke with times of
56.28 and 2:01.18 and a win in the 200-yard Individual Medley
(2:05.31). She also led off the winning 200-yard Medley Relay team
for Amherst.

Steve Chaponis, Hamilton
(Sophomore - Bethlehem, Pa.)
Chaponis finished first in the 50-yard Butterfly during a weekend
meet against Amherst with a time of 24.60 seconds, and placed
second in the 100-yard Butterfly with a time of 54.08. Chaponis was
also part of the Hamilton 200-yard Medley Relay squad that finished
second by 0.78 seconds.
Annie Barton, Bates
(Senior - Holladay, Utah)
Barton had an impressive showing at the Deerfield Beach Relay Meet
in Florida last week, posting times of 28.0 in the 50-yard
Butterfly, 1:06.5 in the 100-yard Individual Medley, and a 100-yard
Freestyle time of 56.8.

Chris Becker, Wesleyan
(Junior - Wayland, Mass.)
Becker finished first in two individual events in the 100-yard and
200-yard Freestyle along with helping the 400-yard Freestyle Relay
place first in a dual meet against Trinity over the weekend. The
victories helped the Cardinals move past the Bantams, 133-96.
Lindsay Gardel,
Tufts
(Sophomore - Wayland, Mass.)
Gardel posted two solid second-place finishes in the 1-meter and
3-meter diving events against Brandeis last week. The scores from
both events rank among the top diving performances in the NESCAC so
far this season.

Christian Witzke, Amherst
(Junior - Jacksonville, Fla.)
Witzke recorded two impressive individual wins and anchored the
Lord Jeff 400-yard Freestyle Relay team as Amherst moved past
Middlebury last week. After turning in a time of 1:43.73 in the
200-yard Freestyle, Witzke posted a 47.49 mark in the 100-yard
Freestyle before recording a time of 47.45 in the 400-yard
Freestyle Relay.
Kendall Swett,
Tufts
(Senior - Akron, Ohio)
Swett took home top honors in the 3-meter diving event against
Wellesley on Wednesday and MIT on Saturday, while also finishing
first in the 1-meter against Wellesley and second against MIT.
Swett's dives against Wellesley helped the Jumbos post a slim
victory over the Blue. Her 3-meter performance against MIT broke
the program record that she had previously set.

Norman Scott, Williams
(Senior - Elmsford, N.Y.)
Scott paced the Ephs to victory over Connecticut College last
week, winning two individual events and helping Williams record
victories in the 400 Medley Relay and the 400 Freestyle Relay.
Scott posted a time of 1:52.26 in the 200-yard Butterfly and 50.56
in the 100-yard Butterfly, along with a split time of 51.38 in the
400 Medley Relay.
Marika Ross,
Middlebury
(Senior - Shorewood, Wis.)
Ross was a quadruple winner for the Panthers during their meet
victory over Connecticut College, taking two individual races and
helping two Middlebury relay teams to victory. Ross won the
200-yard Butterfly with a time of 2:10.32 and was victorious in the
100-yard Butterfly with a time of 58.77.
