Williams' Todhunter Adds Second Individual Title During Day Three at NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - After setting the record in the 100-yard Butterfly on Thursday, Williams first year Logan Todhunter added the 200-yard Butterfly title to her collection on Friday during day three of the 2009 NCAA Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center in Minneapolis.

Todhunter's victory came during the first race of the evening on Thursday, posting a time of 1:57.80 after setting the NCAA record in the event during the preliminaries at 1:57.71. Classmate Bonnie Patchen placed second in the event with a time of 2:02.45.

Kenyon’s men and women moved closer to repeating as team champs on the third day of the NCAA Division III championships at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center in Minneapolis. Kenyon’s men stand in first with 482 team points, well ahead of Emory with 324, Denison with 234½ and St. Olaf with 205. The Kenyon women have 426 and are holding off conference rival Denison with 312, Emory with 311½ and Williams with 279½ going into the fourth and final day of competition tomorrow.

The Kenyon men are going for their 30th straight MIAC title and the Kenyon women are shooting for their 23rd championship and third in a row.

In the men's 200-yard Butterfly, Williams senior Norman Scott finished seventh with a time of 1:50.73. Colby senior Kelsey Potdevin came in eighth in the women's 100-yard Backstroke (57.27), while Connecticut College freshman Tim Walsh was sixth in the men's 100 back (50.40).

Tufts junior Lindsay Gardel posted a fifth-place showing in the women's 1-meter Diving, earning a score of 419.75.

The Amherst women's 800-yard Freestyle Relay team placed second in the event with a time of 7:22.55, a litte more than a second behind Emory's record-setting time. Williams was fifth in the event at 7:33.48. The Lord Jeffs' men's squad placed sixth in the same event (6:39.39).

Competition continues tomorrow at the U of M Aquatic Center, with prelims getting started at 10 a.m. and finals starting at 5:30 p.m. each day. Saturday’s events are the 1650-yard freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 200 breaststroke, men’s 3-meter diving and the 400-yard freestyle relay.
