Williams' Todhunter, Middlebury's Dillon Add Second Titles on Day Three at NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Williams sophomore Logan Todhunter and Middlebury junior John Dillon both set records in the 200-yard butterfly en route to their second individual fly titles during day three of the 2010 NCAA Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center in Minneapolis.
Both individuals won the 100-yard butterfly events on Thursday evening. Dillon completed the 200 fly in 1:45.01, smashing a 13-year-old record. Todhunter was one of three Ephs in the final race of eight in the 200-yard butterfly, posting a record time of 1:57.46. Sophomore teammante Bonnie Patchen was second in 2:01.82, while first year Kathryn Ha came in fifth with a time of 2:03.25.
In the women's 800-yard freestyle relay, Williams finished third with a time of 7:28.94 while Amherst was right behind in fourth in 7:29.73. Middlebury finished seventh in the event (7:31.43). On the men's side, Amherst was the runner-up to Kenyon with a time of 6:40.37. Williams rounded out the teams in the top eight (6:46.01), edging Middlebury for the eighth spot by one-one-hundreths of a second.
Amherst is the top program among NESCAC men's teams after day three, sitting in sixth with a score of 151. Middlebury is eighth (131), followed by Williams in ninth (105) and Tufts in 15th (51). Connecticut College sits in a two-way tie for 33rd (13). For the women, Williams is in third with 297 points, as Emory still leads overall (371.5). Amherst is sixth with 114 points, Middlebury is 16th with 53 points, and Tufts is 30th with 15 points. Connecticut College is 46th (3) and Hamilton is tied for 48th (1).
Competition continues Saturday at the U of M Aquatic Center. Events include the 1650-yard freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 200 breaststroke, men’s 3-meter diving and the 400-yard freestyle relay.
